Evidence to Impact

Evidence to Impact Evidence To Impact DECIPHer Impact distributes the ASSIST smoking prevention programme.

Influential students in Year 8 are identified by their peers and trained to intervene in everyday conversations within their usual friendship group. Most students in Year 8 are non-smokers and ASSIST encourages them to stay that way. It is not a smoking cessation programme, although that may be a welcome side-effect. We provide training, quality assurance and ongoing support to customers who are delivering ASSIST across the UK and the Channel Islands.

We always appreciate a testimonial from the people delivering INTENT, our newest smoking prevention programme. See what Laura and Wayne from N.E. Lincolnshire have to say below.

"After our training with Sally, we trained our School Nursing team to deliver on our pilot school, where we taught year 7 & 8 pupils. They found the sessions useful and for it to be a positive experience for both year groups.

Following on from this we managed to recruit 8/10 secondary school and PRUs. We carried out the initial training to the schools face to face through interactive power point.

Intent has provided schools with a focus and a toolkit to teach to***co control in an interactive way. Intent is easy to use, providing all resources, lesson plan and whiteboard power points for each lesson. It links to the statutory guidance for Health Education making ideal resource for school.

We are delighted from the reaction and interaction from all of the schools involved."

INTENT is a smoking prevention programme. It works by targeting adolescents who have never smoked prior to its delivery. INTENT reduces smoking initiation by first getting adolescents to engage with anti-smoking messages, then creating Personal Plans (or “Implementation Intentions”) about how to...

Happy Birthday to us! 12 years old today! What a journey! From a time of buoyant public health funding through austerity and a global pandemic. The people who deliver our programmes continue to support us and help us grow!

A heartfelt thanks. Let's keep creating impact and reducing health inequalities. The difference that we make is huge :-)

Help us update our smoking prevention programme materials.

Who would be considered influential by 14 year olds? Male and female. We have Marcus Rashford. Who else?

Our programmes often target schools in deprived areas so some well know people may be less suitable than others.

We got desk in some great venues. Lots of planning for the next 6 months today.

Our Story

Evidence to Impact is a not-for-profit company that improves public health.

We bridge the gap between public health research and the people who need it the most, by developing products and services that maximise the impact of academic research.

We do not provide ‘good ideas’ or ‘things worth trying’. Our aim is to put the proof into practice.

We currently distribute the ASSIST smoking prevention programme. Influential 12 and 13 year old students are identified by their peers and trained to intervene in everyday conversations within their usual friendship group. Most students in this age group are non-smokers and ASSIST encourages them to stay that way. It is not a smoking cessation programme, although that may be a welcome side-effect. We provide training, quality assurance and ongoing support to customers who are delivering ASSIST across the UK and the Channel Islands and France.
