Baby comes first. Then maybe there’s another child and/or a partner whose needs are considered. Then there are all the friends and family who want time with baby. And the housework hasn’t gone away. You end up at the bottom of your list.

We end up powering through the exhaustion and ignoring our most basic needs for food and rest. It’s easy to fall into people pleasing. But our little ones need us to be well to give them our best.

So what if we tried to put ourselves second instead of last? What small action would you take to do this? Let me know in the comments!

Anyone else functioning on 5 hours of broken sleep, wanting to have a full blown tantrum is most baby changing rooms because they’re so stupidly set up, and crashing their pram into things several times a day? Tell me about it in the comments!

Hey Mamas, this is your reminder to be kind to yourself. Motherhood is wild and relentless. When you’re giving everything to have to care for your baby, don’t forget to care for yourself too.

Time for yourself is limited, self care is nowhere close to what it used to look like. You may feel like high-fiving someone for managing a shower.

Caring for yourself might now be as ‘basic’ as putting down that stick you keep beating yourself with.

Celebrating 5 years of Brighter Minds 💛

So many words and feelings I could share but I don’t really know where to start so I’ll keep it simple with a woohoo!

Think that captures the sentiment!

Hands up perfectionists!

Whether you’re trying to be the best at your job, parenting, studying, hosting, cleaning, whatever it may be, perfectionism is holding you back.

Perfection is unattainable. It leaves is perpetually feeling like we are failing. It’s demoralising. It makes us feel low, it causes us anxiety, and it damages our self esteem.

Does this feel relatable?

What if we lowered the bar just a bit and aimed for good enough instead? What if you could accept yourself just as you are, trust that you are enough and give yourself a break from all the pressure you’ve been putting on yourself? Can you imagine how much lighter you would feel?

If you want to go on a journey to achieve this, give me a follow and watch this space, there’s some cool stuff brewing up over here!

Don’t set yourself up to fail!

Investing a bit of time in setting goals that really matter to you will boost your chances of succeeding!

Make sure you set goal you WANT to achieve, not a goal to just tick a box.

The Goal Getter workbook will help you go for what you want this year. It’s a structured workbook that I’ve made as a therapist, that helps you figure out what matters most to you, what motivates you and what trips you up! Once you’re clear on this, it walks you through an action plan to help you crack on with doing the doing.

Don’t pile all your refracting up just for the end of the year!

Daily reflections help you move through life with more awareness and intention.
⭐️ It helps us acknowledge what’s going well which boosts our confidence and self esteem.
🌱 And when things feel tricky, it helps us learn and develop do we feel we are growing rather than feeling stuck.

💭 Give these simple questions some thought at the end of each day and see how much you learn and grow.

It’s no secret that I love my work. But I love it the most now that I am achieving work-life balance.

I went through a tough time early in my career with a bereavement. I coped by throwing myself into work which is where I felt I had control and where I felt I had true worth.

Burnout made my loved ones concerned and they questioned whether I could or should continue on my career path. This just made me work even harder to prove to everyone that I could do it! It made me a workaholic.

I’ve learnt the importance of work-life balance the hard way. I empathise and relate to those of you struggling with stress, overwhelm and burnout. Those of you who feel you have no time in your life for yourselves. When you feel totally fried and frazzled, I get it. I know that feeling. And I know, personally and professionally, that there’s a lot we can do to move path this and find a more balanced version of you!

I work full time but read and travel more than ever before. I value my time outside of work and I’m selective about how I spend it.

If you’re looking to make yourself a priority, give me a follow and let’s get started! Whether from tips and videos on this page, my newsletter, 1:1 therapy or self-help resources, we can do awesome things together!

Happy

I don’t know about you, but I really feel it if I’ve not had my 8 hours.

Here are 5 tops tips to help with this:

⏰ Stick to a fixed sleep routine, aiming to sleep & wake at the same time each day.

🧘🏽‍♀️ Move your body. Exercise helps us sleep faster & longer.

🖊️ Journal. If your mind wakes up when you want to switch off, try getting your thoughts out of your head and into a page.

🍷 Watch what you drink. Caffeine & alcohol both reduce sleep quality.

🌓 Limit screen time before bed. That blue light interferes with our body clock.
