🎃 Halloween Fun at Cadbury Hall! 👻

What a spooktacular day we had! The morning began with pumpkin carving, and congratulations to Trefor, whose pumpkin was voted the best of the bunch! 🎃✨

The fun continued all afternoon with Halloween games, a film club special, and a ghoulish playlist that got everyone dancing and singing along. 🕸️🕷️

Our residents also enjoyed some fang-tastic themed treats — including our famous Blood & Organs Punch! 💀🍹

A huge thank you to our amazing kitchen team for the delicious food and creative Halloween touches — you really helped make the day extra special! 😋

👻 Fun Halloween Facts! 🎃

Here are a few spooktacular facts we discovered while celebrating at Cadbury Hall — did you know…? 🕸️🕷️

🎃 1. Ancient Beginnings:

Halloween started over 2,000 years ago with the Celtic festival Samhain, marking the end of harvest and the start of winter.

🕯️ 2. Jack-o’-lantern Origins:

The first Jack-o’-lanterns were actually carved from turnips and potatoes in Ireland — pumpkins came later!

🍬 3. Trick-or-Treat Tradition:

Trick-or-treating comes from an old custom called “souling,” where children prayed for the dead in exchange for food.

🐈 4. Black Cat Magic:

Black cats were once thought to be witches’ companions — now they’re just our favourite Halloween mascots!

🌕 5. Full Moon Mystery:

A full moon on Halloween is rare — the last one was in 2020, and the next won’t happen until 2039!

🎭 6. Costumes & Spirits:

Dressing up began as a way to scare away wandering spirits on Halloween night!

🧡 We loved learning (and celebrating) these spooky traditions together — what’s your favourite Halloween fact? 👻🎃

🌱 Garden Club – Vegetable Rotation Plans

Our Garden Club continues to grow! This morning, James and Trefor discussed and prepared our vegetable rotation plans — making sure each bed has the right mix for healthy soil and great crops in the months ahead. 🥕🥦🌿

Planning where to plant each vegetable helps us keep the garden thriving and full of variety — from root vegetables to leafy greens.

The “before” photos are in… we can’t wait to share the progress soon! 🌞

Supporting Our Local Community

Cadbury Hall residents and team are proud to support the Royal British Legion Poppy Appeal. 🌺

This evening we visited Yatton Co-op during the busy pre-supper slot to contribute and remember all those who have served in the forces — past and present.

A special thank you to HSA Angela, who kindly volunteered her time to support both the home and the British Legion. ❤️🇬🇧

🌺 “In the Quiet Moments”

It isn’t only in silence we remember —

but in the laughter, the songs, the stories retold.

In the faces of those who still carry the torch,

and in the kindness that keeps us whole.

Not all heroes wear medals or march,

some carried letters, hope, and love.

Some waited, worked, and held their breath

while the world above them changed.

We remember them not for the battles alone,

but for the peace they dreamed we’d find.

For every life shaped by courage —

and every heart that stayed behind.

Lest we forget. ❤️🇬🇧

✈️ Saturday at Cadbury Hall ✨

While off duty, our lovely Felicia (Carer & Activities Assistant) enjoyed a wonderful visit with Mary, one of our kind-hearted volunteers and dear friends to our residents. 💛

Mary, who once worked as an Activities Coordinator, shared inspiring stories about the Mission Aviation Fellowship (MAF) — a Christian organisation using planes to reach some of the world’s most remote communities 🌍.

MAF pilots and teams deliver essential supplies like medical aid, school books, food, and more — ensuring even the most isolated places have access to life’s essentials. Supported by generous donations and even our King 👑, their work truly makes a difference.

A big thank you to Mary for sharing her passion and knowledge — it was a fascinating afternoon for all, especially as the plane arrived just opposite Cadbury Hall! 🛩️💙

Perfect for our Open Day.

🍁 Beautiful Autumn Trip – Tuesday 🍁

Our residents enjoyed a lovely day out to Clevedon, taking in the crisp autumn air and colourful scenery.

We stopped at The Little Harp for coffee in their beautiful conservatory — the perfect spot for conversation and laughter. ☕🌿

Back at Cadbury Hall, the Poetry Club gathered for inspiring verses, followed by Film Club & Supper, featuring the heartwarming classic Driving Miss Daisy. 🎬✨

Pumpkins 🎃 purchased ready for our Halloween Afternoon Tea this Friday.

A wonderful day shared with friends — full of warmth, words, and golden autumn light. 🍂

🖌️ Pinetree Residents Get Creative with Mosaic-Making 🎨

As part of their first home anniversary celebrations, and together with volunteers from partner company CBRE UK, colleagues and residents at Pinetree Care Home in set to work on a joint project to commemorate the occasion.

Residents were asked what they would like to do to celebrate and decided to create a beautiful mosaic sign for the home.

The project was a wonderful collaboration that everyone at the home could join in with. The end result is a fitting tribute to the home, which now hangs in reception for all the staff, residents and visitors to enjoy.

A resident commented: “It is so wonderful to try new hobbies, I had never made a mosaic before but I absolutely loved it and have been bitten by the bug! I can’t wait to have another go and see what else we can make. I really enjoyed sitting down with everyone else and working on something together, it gave us all a fantastic sense of achievement.”

What a beautiful mosaic! Well done to all involved. 👏

♥️ The Power of Music: a heart-warming moment at Ochil Care Home ♥️

Colleagues and residents at Ochil Care Home in were over the moon to uncover a beautiful piece of history when they heard an original recording by one of their much-loved residents, Wilma, who used to be a professional singer years ago.

Wilma’s husband, Donald, had lovingly kept the original master copy of Wilma’s debut album which was recorded in 1996. Staff at the home helped Donald transfer the precious recording onto a CD to preserve it.

Everyone at the home watched the heart-warming moment when Wilma, who is living with dementia, realised the recording being played was her voice from almost thirty years ago. Her reaction was absolutely magical as her memory of that time in her life came flooding back.

What’s more, the video of that extraordinary moment showing the power of music to connect, has now been viewed over 65,000 times.

Such a beautiful moment! ✨

⭐ We’re Finalists in the UK Customer Experience Awards ⭐

It’s awards season and we’re thrilled to share that our talented Customer Experience Team has been shortlisted in not one, but two categories in the prestigious UK Customer Experience Awards:

💡 Best Use of Customer Insight
💻 Best Use of Technology

We’re proud that Barchester Healthcare is the only company from the health sector to be recognised in either of these categories. The winners will be announced at Wembley in October – wish us luck!

Our nomination for Best Use of Customer Insight comes from our Tell Barchester survey, which gathers invaluable feedback each year from more than 13,500 residents, patients and their families. Every single piece of feedback helps us shape and improve the care and services we provide.

In the Best Use of Technology category, our new Connex CRM system, powered by Salesforce, has been recognised for transforming how we manage every customer interaction – making the care journey seamless.

We’re so proud of our team and grateful to everyone who shared their feedback with us.
