How did I end up specialising…?
To be honest when I was a student I always imagined I’d specialise in the spine and move to Australia 🤷🏼♀️
But then I became quite a part of the pole and circus industry. So naturally my knowledge of these disciplines, the injuries we encounter, the most effective rehab, sport specific drills in these fields came more naturally. So my first speciality was a sports therapist focusing on Pole, Aerial, Gymnastics, dance & Breakin’ athletes
You may have noticed a lot of my feed nowadays focuses on pregnancy and postpartum exercise. Another twist in my career I didn’t see coming! I fell pregnant in 2020. I remained very active during my pregnancy, I felt very strong creative and capable. Some people looked up to me for this, started reaching out, asking questions about pregnancy, exercise and postpartum rehab. All of which I wasn’t yet qualified to help with. Postpartum life can bring out the real feminist in yourself. Being a woman is an incredible gift, but it also comes with difficulties especially as an athlete (puberty, childbirth, menopause). I knew I wanted to devote more of my career specifically towards women through every chosen stage of their life!
It wasn’t until my daughter was well over 2 years old that I decided to study and take a pregnancy and postpartum exercise qualification. I was still fascinated by my own postpartum recovery (still on going) and wanted to work with and help others.
So here we are. I specialise in pregnant and postpartum athletes but also treat so many pole dancers, aerialists, acrobats and dancers.
I’m looking forward to seeing what twist and turns this side of my career takes next. Careers are always evolving, embracing change is part of evolving as a therapist
