Fat grafting: natural, long-lasting and often misunderstood.
Here’s what patients often get wrong (and what you deserve to know).
“Will all the fat survive?”
Not all of it - but that’s expected. Typically, 50-70% of the transferred fat survives long term. The body reabsorbs the rest within the first few weeks. At Emendo, we use precise techniques and careful placement to maximise fat survival. In some cases, we slightly over-correct initially, knowing a portion will naturally settle.
“Is it painful?”
Discomfort is usually mild - especially where fat is placed. Most of the tenderness comes from the donor site, where fat is removed (like the thighs or abdomen). It's often compared to the ache after a workout, and most patients are back to light activities within a few days.
“Can it replace implants or fillers?”
In some situations, yes. Fat grafting offers a softer, subtler result and is ideal if you want to restore volume using your body’s own tissue. But it doesn’t produce the same level of enhancement as implants - and results vary depending on your starting anatomy. In your consultation, we’ll always be honest about what fat grafting can (and can’t) do.
Whether you're considering it for the face, breasts or elsewhere, fat grafting can be a powerful tool - when done with care, expertise, and realistic goals.
At Emendo Surgical Group, we’ll guide you through the options so you can make a confident, informed choice.
