We are proud to share that The Chocolate Quarter has been featured in the All-Party Parliamentary Group (APPG) on Housing and Care for Older People report, published this week. ๐Ÿ

The report highlights the importance of creating age-friendly, intergenerational communities by addressing the need for more accommodation tailored to an ageing population, as well as the desire for mixed-age communities that bring different generations together. Being included in their report is a meaningful recognition that the work weโ€™re doing at St Monica Trust and at The Chocolate Quarter, is making a real difference.

The Chocolate Quarter demonstrates that placing older peopleโ€™s housing within the heart of neighbourhood regeneration can be beneficial. It purposefully sits within a wider mixed-age neighbourhood, with facilities and services designed for people of all ages in the wider community. By opening amenities like the cafรฉ, cinema, and swimming pool to the public, it encourages everyday interaction between generations.

At St Monica Trust, our mission has always been to build communities where older people flourish, and The Chocolate Quarter represents this perfectly.

โญ We are proud to be supporting Neurodiversity Celebration Week โญ

Neurodiversity Celebration Week is a worldwide initiative that challenges stereotypes and misconceptions about neurological differences, and itโ€™s a cause close to our hearts at St Monica Trust.

The neurodivergent colleagues in our team bring perspectives, creativity, and ways of thinking that genuinely make us better at what we do. We would like to introduce you to one of them.

Meet Laura, our Village Engagement Co-ordinator at Monica Wills House retirement village, who is continuing to explore and understand her own neurodiversity. Diagnosed with mild dyslexia and dyspraxia in her 20s, Laura believes self-advocacy is key to thriving at work โ€“ and this week she hopes to inspire more open conversations and help break down stigma.

Lauraโ€™s hope is that more people feel comfortable to ask and talk about their differences, so we can all encourage each other to thrive, contribute and connect.

When people can show up as themselves, everyone benefits. At St Monica Trust, we are committed to building a workplace where every individual feels valued, supported, and able to thrive.

We are proud to be supporting We Care Home Improvements, enabling the continuation of essential support for older people to remain safe, secure and independent in their own homes. ๐Ÿ

The funds provided help with a wide range of essential works, including urgent electrical repairs, emergency plumbing issues, and contributions towards larger essential repairs, such as roof works.

We are delighted with the fantastic work and achievements of We Care and we look forward to continuing our strong partnership with them in the future.

๐Ÿ’ก Our 2026 Innovation Forum is back, and weโ€™d love you to be a part of it. ๐Ÿ’ก

Following the success of our first-ever Innovation Forum last year, our Centre of Innovation is bringing residents, neighbours, universities, start-ups and health partners back together at Somerdale Pavilion in Keynsham for a day of collaboration.

This year the Innovation Forum will be focusing on the concept and co-design of an intergenerational space to enable healthy ageing. The Chocolate Quarter is already recognised as a leading example of open, intergenerational retirement living, and this is your chance to help shape what comes next.

On the day, you can look forward to:
โœ… An expert panel discussion featuring Health Innovation West, ARCO, NIHR and National Care Forum, exploring how care connects to wider research and innovation.
โœ… A prototyping workshop to reimagine healthy ageing could look like in practice.
โœ… An immersive walking workshop exploring how people move through our spaces and how we can future proof them.

The Forum is now open for registration: โžก๏ธ https://ow.ly/CspR50YqeFJ

๐ŸŒณ Our gardeners at Sandford Station retirement village have recently taken on a wonderful new project of laying a traditional hedge at the back end of the site. As well as framing a beautiful view across the surrounding fields, the hedge will create sheltered habitats for local birds. ๐Ÿฆโ€โฌ›

The team have worked hard to honour the North Somerset style of hedge laying. This is a craft that is practiced in a small area between Bristol and the Mendip Hills, centred on the villages of Wrington and Burrington.

Itโ€™s lovely to see this age-old tradition come to life here, giving our residents another way to enjoy the natural beautiful of Sandford and the Mendip Hills.

โœจ This International Womenโ€™s Day, we are celebrating our colleague, Marta. โœจ

When Marta moved from Poland and joined St Monica Trust in 2010, she was looking for a housekeeping role that would fit around family life. She never expected her career to take off the way it has.

Over time, her abilities in the office caught peopleโ€™s attention, and with managers who championed her along the way, her confidence began to grow. She progressed from Housekeeper to Supervisor, at Garden House Care Home.

Growing up close to her grandmother, supporting this generation feels like her way of giving something back.

What she values most is how St Monica Trust genuinely cares for its people โ€“ treating colleagues as individuals, not just employees.

At St Monica Trust, we are proud of our commitment to developing our people and supporting them to reach their full potential.

๐Ÿ’œ Today we celebrate International Womenโ€™s Day ๐Ÿ’œ

International Womenโ€™s Day is a global celebration of womenโ€™s achievements and a call to action for gender equality. Itโ€™s a day to recognise progress, raise awareness about discrimination, and commit to creating a more inclusive world for all.

At St Monica Trust, weโ€™re proud to celebrate the incredible women who help shape our workplace every single day. Today, weโ€™re shining a spotlight on two of our amazing colleagues and sharing their stories. Let us introduce our colleague Gemma. Nearly ten years ago, Gemma joined St Monica Trust as a carer. She had no idea where this first step would lead.

She moved into a porter role and became the only woman in that position at Westbury Fields. When a Residential Services Team Leader vacancy opened at Monica Wills House and Cote Lane, she was encouraged to apply. Leaving Westbury Fields wasnโ€™t easy, but two years on, sheโ€™s thriving.

Today, Gemma is completing a Level 3 Facilities Management apprenticeship and taking part in the Village Manager Development Programme โ€“ building her management experience.

What Gemma values most about St Monica Trust is that every person is truly seen and recognised, colleagues and residents alike.

At St Monica trust, we are proud to be a place where people are seen, supported, and empowered to achieve more than they imagined.
