✨ We are excited to share that yesterday our Chief Executive, David Williams, attended a Royal Garden Party at Buckingham Palace. ✨

David was nominated by Skills for Care, reflecting the incredible work that St Monica Trust does in supporting older people and communities across our region.

A Royal Garden Party is a special occasion hosted by the Royal Family to celebrate and recognise individuals and organisations who have made a positive difference in their communities, and we couldn’t be prouder to see St Monica Trust’s contribution recognised in this way.

What an incredible honour. Thank you.

For Dying Matters Awareness Week, we want you to know that whatever the end-of-life journey looks like for you and your loved ones, you don’t have to face it alone.

At St Monica Trust, our end-of-life care is about so much more than physical comfort. It’s about honest conversations, keeping families informed, and making sure everyone feels supported, not just the person in our care. Our dedicated teams are here to do just that, across our four care homes in Bristol and North Somerset.

This week is Dying Matters Awareness Week. This is a time to break down the stigma around talking about death and dying.

Many people find it hard to talk about death and it’s common to bottle up our feelings. But if we don’t talk openly about death, dying and bereavement, it can be so much harder to cope when we experience it.

At St Monica Trust, we believe that the end-of-life journey should be calm, comfortable and dignified, for residents and their families alike. That’s why we are nationally recognised for our award-winning palliative and end-of-life care, available across our four care homes in Bristol and North Somerset.

At John Wills House Care Home in Westbury-on-Trym, our team is dedicated to keeping residents comfortable and at peace, ensuring families feel supported and informed throughout.

Supporting unpaid carers across our region 🧑🤝🧑

We’re delighted to be supporting unpaid carers across our region through new funding for local organisations.

Unpaid carers play an important role in our communities, often alongside managing their own health, finances and well-being. The State of Ageing 2025 report highlights the growing demand for care, as well as the challenges many carers experience, including isolation and financial pressure.

In response, we’re working with Quartet Community Foundation and The Anchor Society to fund five organisations.

In partnership with Quartet, funding has been awarded to:
• Bath Ethnic Minority Senior Citizens Association (Bemsca At Fairfield House)
• Carers Support Bristol and South Gloucestershire
• Nailsea Tithe Barn
• The Lighthouse Project, Portishead

In partnership with The Anchor Society, we’ve funded:
• The Carers' Centre (Bath and North East Somerset)

This funding will support services including respite, peer support and practical advice, helping carers look after their own well-being alongside their caring roles.

If someone you know is a carer, a simple check-in can go a long way.

Recently the residents of John Wills House Care Home came together for their monthly Supper Club evening at The Cricketers café, and it was a truly special occasion. 🍽️

With a table full of delicious fish and chips, friendly faces, and wonderful live music from the fantastic Geoff and Pete, the evening was filled with fun, joy, and laughter.

Moments like these are at the heart of everything we do at St Monica Trust. Our care homes aren’t just places to live, they are communities where friendships are made and brilliant memories are created. ❤️

✨ Something special took place at The Chocolate Quarter retirement village last week. ✨

Residents of The Chocolate Quarter and Charterhouse Care Home, came together to bury a time capsule, sealing a piece of themselves into history.

The capsule was filled with memories, voices, and the spirit of the community, during last year’s Centenary celebrations.

With the recent opening of Millstream, the final phase of The Chocolate Quarter, earlier this year, it felt fitting to now bury the time capsule and mark the occasion.

In the sunshine, surrounded by friends, residents watched it be lowered into the ground. A quiet and meaningful moment. A shared past and a gift to the future. ❤️

Supporting the lives of older people has been part of the vision of the St Monica Trust since it began over 100 years ago.

Our aim is to help older people live independently in their own community for as long as possible. We do this by helping individuals with financial support through our Individual Giving Fund.

The feedback we receive from the recipients of these grants and their support workers demonstrates the importance of this work and the impact it can have on individuals' lives.

If you know someone 55+ living in Bath and North-East Somerset, Bristol, North Somerset or South Gloucestershire and facing a difficult time, our team might be able to help them.

🏠 Our residents don’t live in our workplace. We work in their home. 🏠

At John Wills House Care Home, this isn’t just a motto, it’s at the heart of everything we do.

Every resident is unique and every day is shaped around them. Whether it’s choosing how to spend their morning, taking part in activities that bring joy and purpose, or simply being surrounded by people who genuinely care. 💙

We believe that great care isn’t just about meeting needs. It’s about helping people feel fulfilled, valued, and truly at home. That’s why John Wills House is one of just a few care homes in Bristol that is rated Outstanding by the Care Quality Commission.
