High blood pressure is very common, especially in older adults. There are usually no symptoms, so you may not realise you have it.

Things that increase your chances of having high blood pressure include:

👵Your age – you’re more likely to get high blood pressure as you get older
👩‍👦 Having close relatives with high blood pressure
🌍Your ethnicity – you’re at higher risk if you have a Black African, Black Caribbean or South Asian ethnic background
🍕Having an unhealthy diet – especially a diet that’s high in salt
📈Being overweight
🚬Smoking
🍺Drinking too much alcohol
😖Feeling stressed over a long period

Get your blood pressure checked at a pharmacy or GP surgery if:

You think you might have high blood pressure or might be at risk of having high blood pressure
You’re aged 40 or over and have not had your blood pressure checked for more than 5 years

Get your prescriptions before the August . Most practices ask patients to order prescriptions at least three working days in advance.

Phoning 999 because you have run out of your prescription is not a suitable use of our resources.

❗Our Autum/Winter immunisation clinic will be held at the practice on Saturday 11th October 2025*
*An alternative date, later in October will be available if you are unable to attend the flu clinic on 11th October.

📣 This year more than ever it is vital that everyone who is eligible for the flu jab has it done. Getting this done at the practice as soon as you can is one of the most important things you can do to help the NHS, your community and indeed to protect yourself. Seasonal flu and/or COVID-19 viruses have the potential to add substantially to the winter pressures usually faced by the NHS, particularly if infection waves from both viruses coincide.
✉️ You may receive a letter from the national booking system inviting you to one of the local pharmacies to have a Flu jab and/or Covid Booster. We strongly urge you to have your Flu jab with the practice. The practice has knowledge of which other vaccines you require and will administer them at the same time. This is very important to protect against other disease. The practice relies on the income generated from the flu program to fund our staff in particularly our additional nurse appointments we offer. Without this income we will have to reduce some of our services. Please support the surgery by doing this.
Those eligible for NHS influenza vaccination in 2025 to 2026 include the following;
🔴 Those aged 6 months to under 65 years in clinical risk groups
🟠 Pregnant women
🟡 Those aged 65 years and over
🟢 Those in long-stay residential care homes
🔵 Carers
🟣 Close contacts of immunocompromised individuals
⚪️ Frontline health and social care staff
📱 Appointment invites will be sent out to patients via text message later this week.
✉️ Those patients who are registered as housebound will receive a letter in the post with details of when the team will visit.
💻 Further information on the vaccines are provided on the link below.

Following this patient safety alert regarding an outbreak of Burkholderia stablis, UKHSA and the MHRA have published a joint release advising the public to stop using certain non-sterile alcohol-free wipes.

During investigation of an outbreak, certain wipes were found to be contaminated with Burkholderia stabilis.

The following products have been found to be affected:
• ValueAid Alcohol Free Cleansing Wipes
• Microsafe Moist Wipe Alcohol Free
• Steroplast Sterowipe Alcohol Free Cleansing Wipes

If you have any of these products, you are advised not to use them and to dispose of them.

While the overall risk to the public remains very low, it is important these types of wipes are not used for the treatment of injuries, wounds, or broken skin, and that they are not used to clean intravenous lines.
