Good time, tough trail. 7 stages of The Cambrian Way. Tarp under the stars. Walking in storms. River Crossings. Over-grown Trails. Fallen Trees blocking forests. Mammoth effort. Not for the beginner or untrained. This is mountain connoisseur’s trail!

I’ve walked the Drakensberg, the Inca Trail, Wainwrights C2C National Trail, the 3 Peaks National Challenge…. This was the toughest trail I’ve had. Big miles every day, big challenges, tough trails, tough weather, great company, plenty of laughs. The trail broke us.

Bannau Brycheiniog National Park, Wales. A vast and beautiful space to build fitness. My body is telling me there isn’t much flat walking in Brecon!

Today is International Womens Day.

There are many aspects to this. The work is ongoing in a still uneven world.

Here’s a contrasting shout out of respect to women grafters - from today’s Hollywood A listers & their under-recognised stuntwoman to yesteryear’s ‘working class’ hard grafting Fisherwomen of the North Yorkshire coast - tough women who grafted long hours on shore to make a living.

🫡 Respect always & admiration. The journey for a fairer world goes on ✊ ❤️

It’s National Engineers Week 2025.

Here’s a humorous shout out to any of my clients who are Engineers. I don’t know if there is any truth in this meme (borrowed from an Engineers social media 🫵🤷‍♂️)

Winter Warmer 10K Run completed yesterday with one of my clients.

Linda suffered a large central disc prolapse in her low back a few years ago. Linda doubted if she’d ever be able to return to serious & enjoyable running. Job well done! - so good seeing Linda back smashing not one but two hill loops of Ashton Court.

And with some money from all the Race Fees going to the national homeless charity ShelterUK, there were two good reasons to run 🏃‍♂️

After the injury comes the pain. Then comes the treatment phase. Then comes the rehab phase…& more rehab. It’s a long road & there’s ups & downs & at the end is achievement, satisfaction & smiles.

ps. I came joint 5th (respectable 😉) in my age+gender category

😄

NEW YEARS EVE FITNESS REFLECTIONS: With no marathon training this year I’ve been able to focus more on building some strength; maintained 10 mile trail run fitness through the year; ticked off a Road Half Marathon. Sustaining cardiovascular endurance whilst maintaining moderate strength aligns with the advice of Harvard professors.

Whatever your sport well done for building physical health into your life. Will you be setting performance or longevity goals for 2025?

The ‘Forget-Me-Not’ flower is used as a symbol of dementia. Dementia causes memory loss as well as many other cognitive, behavioural, emotional and physical difficulties.

Wednesday 4th December is Elf Day - a seasonal fundraising day for the Alzheimer’s Society.

My father in law has dementia. We still see ‘the real him’ behind the disease. After many years a vibrant man, sadly now he suffers with the cruel illness of mixed dementia.

It’s National Tree Week - the UK's largest annual tree celebration.

Trees are an amazing symbol of longevity.

This one taken in my days living and working in a state hospital in Southern Africa with me + my Beetle for perspective. We may not have anything as big as this in the UK but possibly several trees that are as old.
