Brandon Playlink

Brandon Playlink Playlink is a Brandon Trust service that supports autistic children and children with learning disabilities (aged 5 to 18 years), in South Gloucestershire.

Brandon Playlink supports children from 5 to 18 years of age, in the South Gloucestershire area. Playlink offers a variety of support to over 160 disabled children, with a motivated team of play workers enabling children to have the best experiences possible. We run play schemes in the school holidays (summer, Easter, and half terms in February and October). Sessions are held in Yate, Bradley Stoke, and Staple Hill. As part of this, we organise day trips to places such as Noah's Ark Zoo Farm and Puxton Park. During school holidays, we also run teenage workshops, offering age-appropriate activities for young people aged 13 and over. Activities include bowling, mini golf, cinema, and specialised workshops that help teenagers to learn and grow. Our buddy scheme helps children with disabilities to access mainstream clubs and activities. This scheme offers 1 to 1 support. We have helped children to join groups such as Scouts and Brownies and supported them to access mainstream activities such as swimming, golf lessons, and young drivers school. In 2023, we started providing forest skills sessions at Grow Wilder in Frenchay. These sessions give children the opportunity to spend time in nature and enjoy a variety of sensory experiences. We also hold an annual summer camp for young people aged 14 to 19, offering new experiences, activities, and challenges, as well as giving families some valuable respite.

Over the summer, the young people and children we support at Playlink took part in our Brandon Rewilded Forest Skills sessions!

They engaged in activities such as:
Fire lighting
Campfire cooking
Foraging
Nature games and activities
Wilderness exploration
Nature habitat crafting
Natural tie-dye
And so much more!

Research shows that spending as little as 20 minutes outdoors can improve feelings of anxiety and depression, and help with feeling more relaxed and connected to others and nature. At Brandon Rewilded, we aim to enable children and young people a safe and engaging environment to explore nature, learn, play and create 🌳

If we’re successful in taking on Grimsbury Farm, we have bold, inclusive, and exciting plans to bring it to life for everyone in the community.

Here’s what we’re dreaming of and planning for:

🌳 A vibrant community hub - a space for events, learning, and connection
🌿 Forest school experiences for children and young adults of all abilities to learn and explore

Brandon Trust is ready to grow the future of Grimsbury Farm 🌱

Brandon is a charity and not-for-profit – every penny we make goes straight back into supporting autistic people and people with learning disabilities. We’ve already invested in the site using income we have generated and grants we have secured – and we are ready to do even more 💫

The proposal we’ve submitted to South Gloucestershire Council to take over Grimsbury Community Farm, Kingswood, South Gloucestershire, is a plan to grow the farm into a space that works for everyone 💗
