🎉 Neighbourly Wrapped 2025 🎉

This year, our network came together to make an extraordinary difference by supporting people, strengthening local causes and keeping good surplus where it belongs: in communities 💙

None of this happens without the generosity of our partners, the dedication of local charities and the power of communities working together.

Thank you for being part of the Neighbourly network, here’s to even more impact in 2026!

🌟 Feel Good Friday 🌟

This week, team Neighbourly have spent their own volunteer time writing cards for Portishead Youth & Community Centre to distribute to their community.

Receiving these letters will hopefully bring warmth and smiles to those who need it most during the festive season.

Thank you to all our partners who have also taken part in Festive Letter Writing this year, together our kind words will make a real difference 💙

❄️ As we head into winter, many local charities are preparing for another challenging season.

In our recent survey, 90% told us they expect the cost-of-living crisis, including rising food prices, energy bills and rent, to significantly affect the people they support in the months ahead.

For families already struggling to make ends meet, these pressures can make even the basics feel out of reach. And for the community organisations working tirelessly to bridge the gap, demand is rising faster than resources.

Winter is a time when community really shows its strength. Whether through kindness, connection or small gestures of support, we all have a part to play in helping those who may be feeling the strain. 💙

🎉 A landmark win for corporate social impact!

Yesterday’s Budget confirmed the introduction of long-awaited VAT relief on business donations of surplus goods to charity for onward distribution or use in services, a policy change Neighbourly has been championing for years, alongside our partners across industry and the charitable sector.

This reform removes a major financial barrier that has long discouraged usable products from being given to the people who need them most.

Instead of heading toward waste streams, far more surplus - from hygiene essentials to clothing and household items - should now be more redirected to local charities and community groups supporting families facing hardship.

It’s a huge step forward for social justice, sustainability and community resilience, and a brilliant example of what’s possible when business, government and the third sector work together. 💙

We’re incredibly proud to have played a role in this progress, and grateful to all the campaigners and partners who helped us get here. (Confederation of British Industry) British Retail Consortium Scott Newton-Smith The Rt. Hon. Brown

🌍 Today is World Children’s Day, a moment to champion children’s rights, amplify their voices and work towards a fairer future for every young person.

This mission feels especially important as we head into the festive season, which is why we’re proud to once again partner with Lidl for their Toy Bank programme to help ensure children who may be facing a tougher Christmas this year still feel the magic.

Until 15th December, shoppers can donate unopened toys and gifts in-store. These will be collected by Neighbourly charities, food banks and community groups and shared with children in the local community who need them most. Plus, Toy Bank partners can apply for grants from the £125,000 Lidl Community Fund to support essential food provision.

If you’re able to, pop into your local Lidl and help us spread a little joy this Christmas. 💙

As AI becomes increasingly essential for community organisations and local charities, we’re committed to helping our network build the skills and confidence they need to harness its potential.

Our latest Community Survey shows encouraging progress:
📈 30% of organisations are now using AI in some capacity, up from 19% just six months ago.
But many still feel left behind.
📉 45% told us they’re not using AI at all, a decrease from 58%, but still a clear signal that more support is needed.

If you're in that 45%, or just unsure where to begin, we’re here to help.

🌟 Feel Good Friday 🌟

Last month, as part of our Extra Hour campaign encouraging people to use their hour gained for small acts of kindness, Neighbourly's Katherine Wibberley spent time with children at a local primary school talking about how they could put their time to good use and spread kindness in their community.

The children were super engaged, and loved making cards to share with their loved ones 💙

A big shout out to Katherine for inspiring the next generation of kindness champions!
