🌀Contact Improvisation Workshop with Jan-Ming Lee
📅 Monday 20th April
🕙6.30-8.30pm
📍BCMB
For students/practitioners of massage or bodywork; or anyone exploring how to safely share body weight through dance.
Contact Improvisation is an evolving community dance practice that emerged during the 1970s in the States. It has no set sequences or steps. It begins with a connection between dancers through exchanging weight, momentum, counterbalance and exploring shared gravity. It teaches a whole body awareness and how to move safely between many choices of direction, effort, releasing, and communicating between dancers through physical proximity.
This workshop will teach elements of Contact Improvisation to build on your skills as a bodyworker, masseuse, or anyone wanting to explore sharing bodyweight dynamically and safely. Jan-Ming will guide you through the stages step by step, offering chances to explore solo movement, and partner movement. Emphasis will be on listening to your own integrity and ways to say yes and no through building trust and empowerment of one’s own boundaries.
Who is it for? If you answer yes to any of the questions below, this workshop is for you!
You are a massage therapist or bodyworker......
Who can sense your client’s resistance to relaxing, but you’re not sure how to work with it?
You feel you work with good technique or a well-practiced sequence or technique but something is missing – your client is still holding back.
To complement your training, you’d like to develop further so you can sense more nuances and more options to respond to each client individually
You’d like to refresh and renew your sense of your practice
You’d like to experience a more dynamic and playful context to explore weight sharing with your whole body awareness
You’d like to explore more equity or fluidity between giving and receiving roles, so that you can be clearer when you are giving or receiving touch
