A lot of people are talking about herpes right now but what actually is it?

Only 10-20% of people who carry the infection that causes herpes will have been diagnosed, even though the World Health Organisation (WHO) estimates that 69% of women and 61% of men in Europe carry the type 1 virus.

Once you have the virus, it remains in your body. There’s no cure that clears it. But there are treatments to help to manage outbreaks and relieve the symptoms, so if you are concerned you may have herpes, it's important to seek medical advice.

Choosing contraception can feel like a lot - there's a lot of options - some hormonal, some non-hormonal. Some only protect against pregnancy whilst others protect against STIs and pregnancy. Some people experience loads of side effects and some people experience nothing at all. Some people take it to better their acne and periods whilst others experience more acne and heavier periods taking it. So what do you do!?

Contraception is your choice - advice, guidance and the experience of others is helpful, but ultimately, it is your decision how you manage contraception.

Our advice?
➡️ Do your research in reputable places - the Yuno website is a great place to start!
➡️ Speak to a medical professional - they will be able to help you understand the relationship between your body and health and any contraception you are considering
➡️ Take your time and be patient - sometimes it takes a bit of trial and error to find what is right for you.

Language might not seem like a big deal, but it can really have an impact on how we interact with our s*xual health and wellbeing.

When we change the way we speak about things like STIs, we reduce stigma and we reduce shame which in turn leads to a reduction in STI rates. So next time you find yourself, a friend or a partner describing themselves as "clean", let them know than "negative" or "clear" is a better term. The more you do it, the easier it gets!

The Copper Coil (also known as the IUD) is a non-hormonal long acting reversible contraceptive which can be used to prevent pregnancy for up to 10 years! It can also be fitted as emergency contraception if taking the morning after pill isn't an option.

You might have heard good things and bad things about people's experience with the copper coil and it might have swayed you one way or the other.

What's important to know is that contraception might effect your body differently to someone else, which means you might experience side effects or you might not.

To help you figure out whether the copper coil is right for you, here are some pros and cons to consider. It's also important to talk these things through with a medical professional to help you decide what's right for you.

Consent isn't just about the word "yes" - it's also about our body language and how we feel!

⭐ It's verbal - "Yes" is a great start but other phrases we can use that signal consent might be things like "I like that" or "touch me there" - these affirm that we like what is happening.

⭐ It's physical - Open body language is a big sign that consent is present. This might include prolonged eye contact, smiling, nodding enthusiastically and reciprocating touch.

⭐ It's emotional - We should be feeling lots of positive emotions when consenting including happiness, excitement, joy and pleasure. We should also be feeling safe and relaxed and know that we can trust the person we are with.

It's not always easy to read body language or know the vibe so if ever you are unsure whether consent is present, just stop and ask. Getting a clear verbal yes or no is the safest thing you can do for you and your partner.
