Bona Dea Counselling and Psychotherapy - Bristol

Bona Dea Counselling and Psychotherapy - Bristol Discovering the uniqueness of individuals through deep dialogue is my passion. More recently I spent three years working for Bristol MIND.

I am a qualified Psychotherapeutic Counsellor and a UKCP registered Psychotherapist in Training, currently studying for an MA in Humanistic and Integrative Psychotherapy, at Bath Centre for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BCPC). Before I decided to pursue a Counselling qualification I spent ten years as a Psychiatric Nurse. As well as my counselling service, I offer low-cost Psychotherapy for adult

s in Bristol and I bring to my practice not only the rich, diverse experiences and resilience I gained as a Psychiatric nurse, but also the intuition and warmth I have cultivated as a Counsellor, in order to nurture and inform my development and ability to work at greater relational depth as a Psychotherapist. The therapeutic relationship we develop and the bond of trust we form will become the most important part of your therapy โ€“ giving you a framework that will support and guide you through the changing landscape of our work together. My work as a Humanistic and Integrative Psychotherapist recognises, includes and respects every individual, and is informed and supported by a wealth of theory and practice. Therapy is not about the therapist, itโ€™s about you, the client. We will both work together to explore your issues, by increasing your understanding and awareness. Therapy does not necessarily need to be about specific problems โ€“ but it can provide an invaluable opportunity for you to get to know and understand yourself better in a safe and confidential space. Ultimately I want you to be able to live your life empowered and independent of me.

Grief and loss are complex processes. It might feel like "getting over" a loss is the only way to deal with it, but the reality is that the ways individuals live with grief are as unique as they are. We can live with multiple losses at multiple stages and the older we get, the more losses we'll have encountered. It's ok to take as long as you need and get the help you need.

Here, in a nutshell, is why therapy can be invaluable, if we want to have healthy relationships.

We can hold on to so much past hurt and it'll sit there in our Unconscious mind until reawoken by a current situation.

It's a brave step to change anything so complex and deeply rooted, so find a therapist who intuitively understands what's happening and can over time help you navigate those dark places.

May you awaken to the mystery of being here and enter the quiet immensity of your own presence.

May you have joy and peace in the temple of your senses.

May you receive great encouragement when new frontiers beckon.

May you respond to the call of your gift and find the courage to follow its path.

May the flame of anger free you from falsity.

May warmth of heart keep your presence aflame and may anxiety never linger about you.

May your outer dignity mirror an inner dignity of soul.

May you take time to celebrate the quiet miracles that seek no attention.

May you be consoled in the secret symmetry of your soul.

May you experience each day as a sacred gift woven around the heart of wonder.

...and this is by no means an exhaustive list.

Think about your life...all the things you've lost, all the aspirations you've given up and all the endings you deal with constantly.

Grief is a tricky, sticky emotion and often disguises itself as other things, like anger and anxiety.

If we aren't letting ourselves feel *any* of these emotions, they'll still let us know they're there, by manifesting in a physical, bodily way (for example, in aches and pains, fatigue, coughs, asthma, eczema etc etc)...and will continue to tell us their message, steadily increasing in volume until the root of the issue is addressed.

Of course, many people will never address it and might even avoid it all their lives...however, if you want to take that scary leap into profoundly meeting and understanding yourself, psychotherapy is a great way to begin (and then to be supported through) that deep, essential work.

No matter how hard we work to conceal the emotions we don't want anyone to know or see, our bodies are incapable of being complicit and will give plenty of clues as to the real state of things...and yet we often push even those away, seeking solutions in medical cures. Working through it all with someone like me to accompany you, will be hard, but not as hard as continuing to struggle through it all alone.
