I love looking into different ceremonies and traditions and I think there is a real yearning for many people at the moment to embrace some of the old ways and mark the passing of the year with different rituals. In our fast-paced hectic modern world it is too easy to let these moments just go by in a blur so I'm trying to pause and honour them.

Today, May 1st, marks Beltane, one of the great Celtic fire festivals and one of the most passionately celebrated sabbats on the Wheel of the Year. Where Samhain honours the thinning veil of autumn, Beltane celebrates the bursting life-force of spring, the union of energies, and the ignition of summer’s fire.

Beltane (from the Gaelic Bel Teine, meaning “Bright Fire”) was traditionally celebrated across Ireland, Scotland, and the Isle of Man. It honoured the god Belenus, a radiant deity of healing, sunlight, and protection.

Ancient Beltane rites included:

- Twin bonfires that people and livestock passed between for purification and blessing
- Feasting and dancing to welcome fertility, abundance, and good fortune
- Offerings to the Fae, who were believed to be especially active and mischievous

Beltane is the moment when the Earth is fully awake-lush, fertile, and overflowing with potential. It’s a celebration of life-force, creativity, and the sacred spark within us.

To celebrate this special festival this morning I lit a small fire and wrote some intentions on paper then burned them. I made an offering table and thought about all the things in my life I'm grateful for.

I also listened to lovely music and the birds in my garden, drank chai tea and ate strawberries and cake- (well it did say feasting!)

Magical Beltane Blessings xx

It is a gorgeous spring day here. The first bluebells are out in the woods, the blackthorn is in blossom and there are cherry trees in flower against a blue sky. The hyacinths on my patio smell amazing. Traditionally this turning point in the year, marking equal day and night, represents balance, an awakening, a return to the light. It feels like a real transition from the dark, quiet, reflective months to a new season of planting and growth. Happy Equinox! 🌸🦋🌼

It has been a busy few weeks here, I'm a bit late posting about it but wanted to share what an inspiring experience it was to attend my first Death Cafe a couple of weekends ago. I'd been curious about them for a while so went with a friend to the beautiful Arnos Vale Cemetery in Bristol. We met some lovely people and had some fascinating conversations. This year I've learned a lot about how funerals work in the UK and how the nature of them is changing as more people become aware of civil ceremonies and the options available to them. However, death itself still feels like a topic many people avoid for fear of upsetting someone, or saying the wrong thing so to have it normalised like this at the cafe was really refreshing and to hear different people's experiences and perspectives was enlightening.
(Plus they provided satsumas and maltesers on all the tables - what's not to like!?)

Think I've probably passed the acceptable threshold now for saying Happy New Year- or maybe better late than never?😬 I have been easing gently into 2026 with some lovely chilly walks and have been cooking lots of homemade soup, including roasted cauliflower which was surprisingly yummy actually! Today I'm making plans for an upcoming wedding in the summer and a vow renewal in the Autumn, am very excited for both of them. I know January can be a tough month for lots of people. I've found fresh air and nice food to be a lot of help, and am embracing the feeling of potential you get thinking of Spring which is just around the corner... ❄️🌷

I loved speaking at our Under the Sea lantern parade this weekend, it was such a joyful community event. Here's a bit of my speech:

"As human beings, we have been doing this for a very long time. Illuminated processions have been part of many cultures for centuries—from the full moon celebrations of Chinese New Year to our own Celtic ancestors marking the winter solstice with bonfires to symbolise the re-birth of sunlight. European legend tells us of St Martin, who cut his cloak in half to share with a freezing stranger, and who, to this day, is celebrated by children singing and carrying lanterns through the town. It reminds us how lanterns have long symbolised hope, generosity and light in the darkest months. At a time when many of us feel the world itself is in a dark and uncertain moment, it’s easy to feel small or helpless—but gatherings like this remind us that hope begins close to home, in the simple act of coming together, creating something joyful, and remembering the strength and goodness we find in one another."

I have been walking in the Quantock Hills this weekend, at the extraordinary Great Wood Forest.🌲🌳 Beautiful Autumn colours and my friend I went with told me this is a Mast Year for fruits, nuts, and fungi so there were lots of stunning aminita mushrooms on the ground! 🍄We even found a lectern in a clearing by a bubbling stream, lovely place for a special outdoor woodland ceremony! A really magical place 🥰
