My name is Lynne and I am a British School of Meditation qualified teacher, and it is my aim to help others to learn how to make a peaceful space between the everyday busy-ness of life.
My relationship with meditation began when I was in my teens, although it was often more ‘off’ than ‘on’ until a few years ago!
Developing a daily meditation practice has transformed my life for the better in so many ways, I worry far less and experience less anxiety, I am healthier and more confident than I have ever been in my entire life.
That’s not to say that life is perfect, but this simple thing called meditation has given me a toolkit that helps me navigate the sometimes choppy waters I’m swimming through.
After contracting Chronic Fatigue Syndrome in my teens, most of my adult life had been plagued by ill health and a lack of confidence in my body’s ability to heal itself. However, I feel that meditation and the resulting reduction in stress has had a positive impact on my immune system; I pick up far fewer colds and recover more quickly when I do succumb.
It has also helped me build resilience and confidence in my body and I am finally able to exercise regularly, building strength and fitness and I am healthier than I have ever been.
As my stress levels have decreased, even my children have noticed I am more even tempered at home, one of them saying, “You’re not so angry any more Mum, are you?”
This measurable difference in my mental health has driven my enthusiasm for continuing to develop my own meditation practice. I am more inclined to enjoy life, no longer constantly worrying about what might happen, or replaying the past.
Meditation has given me permission to value my experiences, it is helping me to learn to stop comparing myself to others and continually coming up short. As well as increasing my self-worth, it’s also helping me to see the good in others more easily and to make fewer judgements. This has had a positive impact both personally, with improved relationships with family and friends; and professionally, finally having the confidence to be here plugging my emerging business!
Without doubt though, the most empowering gift that meditation has given me is self-compassion. It allows me to be perfectly imperfect. I have stopped criticising myself at every turn and although I still hear those, “What will they think of you?” snide comments from my inner critic, I find I can now turn to her and say, “Let them think what they like!” and for that to be increasingly true.
Meditation truly is a gift for me. It has become part of who I am, connecting my mind, body and spirit. I am more happy and grateful, self-confident and compassionate because of it. It makes my life feel less complicated and conflicted, yet it helps me to embrace challenge and change.
Every day I continue with it, I know I am the best version of myself that I can be which benefits everyone around me. It empowers me to be the change I wish to see in the world and I am certain it is a gift that will keep on giving.
I now want to share the benefits of my experience of meditation through teaching and supporting others to embark on their own mindful practice.
