🌱 Adopt a hop! 🌱

Our flourishing communities at Sandford Station and Cote Lane have recently planted 24 hop plants each.

Now we need residents, colleagues and volunteers to ‘adopt a hop’ and ensure they are watered, weeded and looked after to help secure our centenary beer!

Can you help us to help the hops, support people living with dementia to get out and visit them, and do some very light gardening on your schedule?

Earlier this year, as part of our 100 Good Ideas campaign, we asked you for your brightest, boldest ideas to help people live happy, healthy and more independent lives as they age.

The response was phenomenal – over 250 ideas were submitted from residents, colleagues, universities, start-ups and supporters across the UK and beyond.

We’re excited to share the emerging themes and hear your feedback.

We’re inviting residents, family members and colleagues to join us at our resident roadshows to see which ideas have made the shortlist and learn how you can get involved.

Knowing how much Nick loves dogs, our thoughtful Wellbeing Coordinator brought in her adorable dog, Scoobie, for some special cuddle time. Nick lit up instantly, clearly enjoying every moment with Scoobie. And the joy didn’t stop there—soon, Scoobie was making new friends with the other residents too!

VE Day Part 2! A day of remembrance, celebration, and peace.
Everyone at Garden House came together to give our residents a truly special day. We were delighted to welcome our regular visitors from Year 4 at Badminton School, who had just held an assembly all about VE Day.

Armed with thoughtful questions, the children connected beautifully with our residents—sparking conversations full of curiosity and shared history. One resident shared memories of being in Trafalgar Square on VE Day itself—a moment that brought the past vividly to life for all of us.

A Special Easter Treat at Garden House! 🌸🐰
This Easter, Garden House had some very special visitors — the Easter Bunny himself, along with his delightful helper, Alice! Every guest received a surprise Easter Egg, spreading smiles all around.
But the fun didn’t stop there... because who’s ever heard of Easter Alpacas? 🦙💐
They might not have made it into the Bible’s Easter story, but we’re pretty sure they had a spot on Noah’s Ark!
A truly magical day filled with joy, treats, and a few fluffy surprises!

Emerald (Registered Nurse)

I started working for St Monica Trust during the COVID-19 pandemic when they were looking for 'helping hands' to help those living in nursing care in Garden House. I had just finished my A-levels and wanted to do something useful rather than be at home. After leaving the sixth form, one of my friends told me about the role of helping hands, and I applied. Over the months, I enjoyed my role as a helping hand while awaiting my university degree to start. At this time, I enjoyed the role so much that I made the application to become a care assistant, I continued this role while starting my university course (unrelated to healthcare) and quickly realised that caring for people was what I loved and really enjoyed.

I decided to take a gap year and work full-time as a care assistant throughout the pandemic. I built lovely relationships with residents, some of which I still have today. I enjoyed my role at this time so much that I decided to stop my university degree and change to nursing to study here in Bristol and continue to work at Garden House. Coming to the last year of my degree, I realised I would love to work as a nurse at Garden House. Since finishing my degree in June of 2024, I have enjoyed my transition from a carer to a registered nurse here and feel very grateful to have been supported in a job that I love with a fantastic team.
