It's the end of the week!
Our thanks to those who came to speak to us this week, we know it takes a lot to dig deep and do that, so give yourself credit.

Thank you to Middle Street Walkers Natalie (also Healthy Minds) for the talk this week to The Good Companion's Group in Brixham on Monday, assisted by Karen from Healthy Minds.

Our thanks as always to Brixham Laboratory The Bay Coffee Company & Caffe Cosi at Paignton Library for enabling our support sessions, mindfulness group and team meetings.

Thank you to all our followers and for the post shares which all help us to reach people across the bay.

Our appointment book is open as always next week, wishing you all the best weekend it's possible for you to have -

Changing tides.
Change can be really difficult sometimes can't it? From those huge changes like the loss of a person, a job, a home, the loss of mobility, sight, hearing ...a whole list of things really. These are sweeping changes sometimes expected sometimes out of the blue.
There might be changes we have to make which we might have more say in, things like the necessity to end a relationship or to relocate where we live or work even making lifestyle choices because we need to improve our health and well being.
All changes can be challenging, and not everyone reacts to change in the same way. Some people might find changes too overwhelming...even the small changes, leading to feelings of sadness and anxiety. Not everyone will understand why you might be having that reaction - you might hear words like "everything happens for a reason" or "you will get used to it" which may be well intentioned but not always well received at the time. You might not feel like telling people how you are feeling or how to explain why you feel anxious about the changes.
Our volunteers are happy to give you that space to try to talk, to support you to work with you during these times. We provide somewhere that you can check in for a face to face appointment and to be heard without judgement.

A new week!
Let's see if we can spread a little kindness this week, let's send it all out across the bay,
Smiles, words, hugs - because a little goes a long way!

We can all make a difference to each other, if you're recognising that someone you know isn't quite themselves, ask them if they are ok. It may be a conversation starter or thoughts that someone has noticed that can make a difference.

We are available this week if you or someone you know needs to talk, never think that your problems aren't as important as other people's - we are here to listen no matter what. If you think you might not be able to find the right words to explain what's wrong, don't worry our volunteers are trained to help you find those words, and work with you to find a way forward. Even if you want to bring someone with you for that first visit, that's ok too.

Message or email us and we can arrange to see you soon!

The Baton Of Hope UK tour gets underway in just over a month. This is the UK’s largest su***de prevention initiative, travelling across the country to raise awareness, challenge stigma and start vital conversations. It carries a powerful message: su***de is preventable.

Our very own Ashley Lamb (PTSD Resolution Therapist and Outreach Coordinator) has been selected as the Baton of Hope bearer when it arrives in Torbay on Tuesday 30th September - Whether you’re in the South West like Ashley, or anywhere across the UK, check out the map & dates below ⬇️ and see the website for more info: www.batonofhopeuk.org

“Too many lives are lost because people feel they have nowhere to turn. My hope is that by carrying the Baton, I can help shine a light on the support that is out there and encourage open, honest conversations about mental health, particularly among veterans and serving personnel.”
- Ashley Lamb

A new week - we hope it's a good one for you, but we know many of you are battling through each day and that's not easy.
We have availability this week for one to one support with one of our trained volunteers.
Brixham - The Bay Coffee Company Wednesday Morning.
Paignton - Cosi Caffe Paignton Library Friday Morning.

Simply message or email us to make an appointment for our listening and support service. There are no waiting lists, you can be seen and heard this week.
Maybe you are struggling with a stressful situation and just need someone to listen - our volunteers are that someone.

Note this is active listening & support not a counselling session.

Wishing everyone the best weekend it's possible for you to have. If you're struggling right now and muddled through the week, you're doing well! Extra support? No problem, get in touch to talk things through with one of our volunteers next week.

Thanks again to all the wonderful businesses that support us, especially this week to The Larder Speciality Coffee for looking after us at our team meetings!

We also welcome two new volunteers to our team - Joe and Ashley. We know they are going to be a great addition to the team.

What is behind the smile?
Are you one of those people who when people ask "how are you?" You politely smile and reply "I'm fine" but what you really want to say is "not great at all, I'm really finding things difficult'.
We are sure that many of us are guilty of doing this - we may not feel like we want to 'burden' people with what's really going on or we are too busy keeping everyone else lifted that we have to keep on going, whilst paddling like crazy beneath the surface.
There are many organisations including us, who are more than happy to listen to whatever is going on for you, and to be by your side for a while. Even if you think that your problems are small compared to someone else's (we often hear that) you have every right to e listened to as much as the next person.

To contact us to make an appointment send a message, or email us at healthymindstorbay@proton.me
