Brixham Laboratory

Brixham Laboratory A great place to work. World class laboratories, amazing offices and an ideal meeting/conference loc

Brixham Laboratory has been based at the Freshwater Quarry Site since the 1950s. It was founded by ICI / AstraZeneca and in 2014 the Laboratory was donated to Plymouth University. Under Plymouth University, the Laboratory has become home to about 30 tenanted organisations providing a wide range of local, national and international services in a variety of business sectors. The Laboratory offers World Class laboratory facilities and serviced office accommodation in a stunning location. Due to the nature of its organic growth over the past 3 years, it has become a thriving centre for business growth but has got a limited outward facing digital profile.

Skills Development at Brixham Laboratory👏

Congratulations to Daniel Cresswell, our Site Engineering Co-ordinator, on successfully completing his counterbalance forklift training.

The training was delivered by Christopher Pooley at Instruckt located in Exeter who Dan highly recommends.

Developing in-house skills and maintaining high safety standards is essential to our operations, and this is a great example of that commitment in action.
Well done Dan, great to see the training already being put to use.

🗺️ Mapping What Matters 🗺️

📣 A workshop for active and retired fishermen, especially skippers!

This week, a Defra-led project called Mapping What Matters is running in Brixham.

The project offers small, informal winter drop-in sessions with 1-to-1 support, where fishermen can mark their fishing grounds and transit routes on charts and explain, in their own words, why these areas matter.

It doesn’t take long, and all information is anonymised and combined.

The aim is to create a new social layer of evidence to help strengthen fishermen’s voices.

👋 Thought I’d start off 2026 with a quick introduction to the team behind Brixham Laboratory.

We’re a small, dedicated team supporting innovation, research and collaboration, while also managing a specialist facility that provides flexible laboratory and workspace for our tenant community. Alongside our partners and occupiers, we focus on creating an environment where ambitious ideas and businesses can thrive and where students can be supported in delivering University projects and research.

Looking forward to what 2026 brings and to working with existing and new tenants, partners and students throughout the year.
