Today 1000’s of people will march in central London asking for a ceasefire 🙏🏼🇵🇸 I couldn’t be there so went into local supermarket to remind people we can do something to show our support. This week South Africa’s IJC case calling out Israel’s apartheid genocide policy was recognised. Stand up and be counted, that’s how history changes.

Do you want to join us in making a difference? We, a group of swimmers at Brockwell Lido are raising money in aid of Medical Aid for Palestinians and every donation will help. Thank you in advance for your contribution to this cause that means so much to the Palestinian people.
More information about Medical Aid for Palestinians: Medical Aid for Palestinians (MAP) works for the health and dignity of Palestinians living under occupation and as refugees. We provide immediate medical aid to those in great need, while also developing local capacity and skills to ensure the long-term development of the Palestinian healthcare system.

Gaza is 41 km long, similar in size to the Isle of Wight.
Between us, we aim to swim, the perimeter of the border of the Gaza strip, approximately 100 km.
As we write, the lido temperature is 12.8 C, and falling.

We started our swim this morning Monday 30th October at 10 am.
All the lengths we swim in these 2 weeks will count.
Don't worry If you couldn't make it on 30th October.
We will arrange other times to swim together, and any lengths swam between 30/10 - 13/11 count.

For the first time, I truly understand how mass atrocities have been able to occur throughout history - again, and again, and again. We never learn.

What does the death count need to be before someone finally speaks against this madness and urges restraint, not more arms? 10,000? 100,000?

A million? More? When have enough Palestinians died?

I get that lots of us are scared to speak up. I get we're afraid to say the "wrong thing. But I won't sit by in silence and live with the fact that I never spoke up when an atrocity on this scale was committed because of fear. We can express our complete condemnation for what the Israeli govt are doing and also assert our unwavering belief in the equal value of Palestinian lives, without inciting hatred against Jewish communities - another persecuted people. Indeed, many Jewish and Israeli people, in the midst of their deep grief and knowing the pain of persecution too well, have had the bravery and strength to be the very first to do so.

This is quite simple. We are watching an occupied, oppressed people face annihilation by a nuclear state with the full backing of the western world. Right now, it is a massacre on a scale I don't think I've ever seen in my life.

Over 6,000 bombs dropped in 6 days already. On a strip of land just 25 miles long and 7.5 miles wide at its widest point. Whole neighbourhoods flattened. Families wiped out. Hospitals collapsing under the weight of the casualties. On a population of 2 million - half of them children. 70% of them refugees. And now, the forced movement of 1 million people. A choice of forced migration or death is ethnic cleansing. The fact that it is impossible for that many to leave in that time means that this is now a genocide.

Show you mean it. If you have any kind of platform right now, please use it. Speak. Because it's becoming glaringly obvious that the world is happy to walk into an unspeakable horror that we didn't even bother to try to prevent.’

I wondered about the point of going to todays solidarity with Palestine demo… what difference will it make? But I’m so glad I went, and was there with many other passionate Londoners, who also felt they had to say not in my name. Do what you can, write to your MP, demonstrate, don’t be afraid to speak up. Surely the worst thing is to do nothing. 🙏🏼

Posted • .guides On of the most brutally honest and thought provoking books I have ever read. for so long I did not understand how to articulate the precarious position I was in. working class, yet not the working class ridiculed by the media. The intersectional nature of my race, ethnicity, nationality, class and cultural identity was hard to interpret, especially because of my location (London) and exposure/proximity to middle class environments such as yoga and fashion through education and career.

It’s actually rather shocking to read at times, the title alone revealed peoples most insidious nature. Reading this on the tube and train was really something, some were curious but most recently a group of drunk and obviously rather privileged men, burst out laughing and were sneaking to take pictures but then on closer inspection, they appeared to stop laughing and fell silent. This really isn’t a joke. The class and cultural identity wars are the most successful and divisive techniques used by the government and the media, to keep the oligarchy/elites unopposed. If you do come across this book please do read and share 🙏🏿

On Friday 10th June, will vote at a public hearing in City Hall whether to allow Taylor to go ahead with this hideous plan. We will be there making our representations, and filling the gallery with people who care about Brixton! We need you to be there! City Hall can seat 140 people - let’s pack it out ✊✊
