“Did you tell Venard about that time you got knocked over by a car?”
Client’s other half asked them after we had our call.
“CRAP!”
*Client quickly fires over a message with the above information prior to our session*
Might have pushed results back a session or two,
But would’ve eventually shown itself up.
Certain areas are fairly hot in my books that I always ask and screen for.
When you’ve had pain for over a long period of time and seemingly random
In multiple areas?
It’s extremely rare that each problem area has its own individual cause.
Usually a few (maybe more in complex cases) areas that are mega important that got rocked and kick started the whole compensation.
Cos if you have knee pain (for example) but have never had any knocks, falls, bumps, etc to it?
Why the hell would it be hurting then?
If you slipped and bashed your knee, that would make more sense to having knee pain.
With this particular client, like many I work with, had seen numerous clinicians with minimal success.
Just a 5-10 minute chat about the current symptoms and then dived right in.
Thinking that if they pressed harder, used stronger tape, manipulate joints more, stretched and bent you into a pretzel and got you into that pain cave to block it out, etc, they’d be hitting the mark.
Thing was, the client never really had any injuries to all the areas they were suffering the pain from.
All on one side of their body
(sounds scary, but is actually quite common presentation and not as bad as made out to be)
For one half of the body to be affected, it’s a massive area to shut down and very precise as there was no compensation with the other side of the body at all.
Turns out to be concussion, unconsciousness with a dash of whiplash from being knocked over by a car.
Head injuries is one area I always ask and check for, regardless how long ago it’s been.
Neck jacks up to stabilise the head
Upper back and shoulder tightens up as well to help out with the neck.
A tonne of areas chip in to help out, even though it’s not even their job.
There were a few more players to the mix around the hip where the impact was, but a lot was all geared to the head.
Cos if I used similar approaches that their previous clinicians had used?
Oh boy! I’d be another name on that list.
There will always be a cause and may not be obvious.
Simply how far back and the depth are they willing to go to uncover it.
With my client, just treating the head already cleared up 70% of their issues.
Not out the woods yet, but the end goal in clear view.
At least 10 years of compensations is a hefty amount to process and catch up.
When you’re ready to stop spinning your wheels and not getting anywhere and you want to speed up the process?
