As Neurodiversity Celebration Week comes to an end, we’re reflecting on how important it is to create spaces where every young person feels understood and supported.
At Bromley Y we aim to support neurodivergent young people by:
Creating safe and supportive spaces to talk about mental health
Using flexible and creative approaches in sessions
Working with schools, families, and professionals
Supporting young people to build confidence, coping skills, and self-understanding
Every young person deserves to feel valued for who they are.
Let’s keep celebrating and supporting neurodiversity beyond this week 💙

No two brains are the same 🧠

Neurodiversity includes a range of ways that people think, learn and experience the world.

Some examples include:

⚡ ADHD – creativity, energy, thinking outside the box

🧩 Autism – strong focus, honesty, attention to detail

📚 Dyslexia – creative thinking, problem-solving, big-picture ideas

🎯 Dyspraxia – determination, creativity, resilience

🔄 OCD – strong awareness, responsibility, attention to detail

🎤 Tourette’s – creativity, resilience, quick thinking

Like everyone, neurodivergent people can experience both strengths and challenges, and everyone’s experiences will be different.

Understanding neurodiversity helps us build environments where young people feel supported, accepted and able to thrive.

This week we’re recognising Neurodiversity Celebration Week 🧠✨
Neurodiversity is the idea that everyone’s brain works in different ways.
These differences are natural and part of human diversity.
Some people may identify as neurodivergent, including those with:
• ADHD
• Autism
• Dyslexia
• Dyspraxia
• Tourette’s
• Dyscalculia
Every brain has its own strengths, challenges, and ways of experiencing the world.
At Bromley Y, we believe that understanding neurodiversity helps us create more supportive environments where young people can thrive.
👀 Look out for more posts this week as we celebrate neurodiversity and share ways we support neurodivergent young people.

University Mental Health Day 💙

There’s a common myth that having mental health support could affect your chances at university.

The reality? Seeking support shows self-awareness and strength.

You deserve education and wellbeing.

You don’t have to choose one over the other.

If you’re feeling pressure about the future, take a moment to pause and breathe today.

Paula Smith, the Bromley Y SEND Co-ordinator, was pleased to attend the One Stop Shop Social Communication Needs (inc. Autism) Event at Community Vision Children and Family Centre in Penge, on Monday, 2nd March.
It was a great opportunity for parents of children and young people with social communication difficulties to receive advice and guidance from professionals and learn about services offering support.
Bromley Y is committed to being visible and accessible to all communities and we are grateful to be included in these events.

At Bromley Y, we are committed to continually evolving the interventions and support we provide to ensure they meet the unique needs of every child and young person. Central to this commitment is our ongoing investment in the training and development of our practitioners.
On Tuesday 24th February, colleagues from our Mental Health Support Teams in schools and our Emotional Wellbeing Service came together for a shared training session focused on Affirming Care for Neurodivergent Young People in therapy.
The session provided a valuable opportunity to learn collaboratively and deepen our understanding of the diverse presentations of autistic, ADHD and dyslexic children and young people. It strengthened practitioners’ confidence in adapting therapeutic sessions to meet individual needs, using neuro-affirming language, and recognising both the distinctions and the connections between emotional wellbeing and neurodivergence.
Practitioners were also encouraged to develop a greater appreciation of the key features of neurodivergence and the ways these can impact daily life for the children, young people and families they support in Bromley.

Did you know 1 in 5 children face mental health challenges? Let’s make a difference together during !
This year the theme is: This Is My Place. Belonging is the feeling of being a valued part of the groups and places that are important to us. It means feeling cared for and comfortable to be ourselves. The activity on Slide 2 encourages children to explore their sense of belonging by creating a personal map, which can include places, groups, or activities or something not physical, where they feel they belong.
