Layers of stress in the muscles and connective tissues are relieved by massage therapy, particularly deeper forms like sports or deep tissue massage. This procedure facilitates the relaxation of constricted areas, enhances circulation, and gives stiff muscles their mobility back. Similar to when you begin a new fitness routine, this causes previously underutilised tissues to suddenly become active. "Delayed onset muscle soreness" is a term for the transient discomfort that might result from microtears in the muscle fibres caused by that stimulation.

After the massage, this feeling usually manifests 12 to 24 hours later and goes away in up to 5 days. It is an indication that the tissues are reacting, repairing, and regaining balance as part of your body's natural adaptation and repair process.
