It’s been a fun packed and productive week again. Making new memories, making life feel more fulfilled and lighter by doing things together.

I’ve been all over the place with my clients. There’s been a visit to Mappleborough Garden centre for breakfast, a visit to The View for coffee (in the rain sadly, but we had fun), a visit to Boots for a prescription, a walk along with my client on her mobility scooter while she gains confidence, there’s been watering flowers and gardening, there’s been shopping, there’s been a visit to Waseley Hills for a walk, I’ve done my weekly Sensory Engagement session at Studley Rose care home and there’s been a trip to Attwell Farm!! Omg my client and I were stood next to a Trantula whilst it was out of its cage!!!

This weeks Sensory Engagement session at Studley Rose Care Home was a throw back to PE days, not everyone’s favourite back then, but my version - Physical Engagement was designed to be a good fun session for all.

This session was BRILLIANT!! There were 13 different activities altogether. Ranging from Football, to Badminton, Cricket to Tennis and a few made up. Each adapted as necessary for each resident to feel involved and valued.

We were fortunate enough to have some relatives join us that were visiting their mother….. thanks to them for taking photos as I had my hands full chasing shuttlecocks and tennis balls all over the place!

This session was beneficial on so many levels- physical, mental, cognitive, team building, reminiscing, hand eye coordination, range of movement and above all fun with others! We ended the session with a bubble gun and who doesn’t love bubbles 🫧 🫧

Last week saw the last of my Sensory Engagement - Art Therapy sessions at Studley Rose Care Home before we move onto something more physically engaging.

I was so pleased and proud of ‘J’ who was the second resident to finish her wonderful canvas painting ready for the Studley Rose art exhibition/competition. She was thrilled too and she couldn’t believe what she was able to achieve with a bit of support. The session was enjoyed by all that took part. As I’ve said on previous posts, for some it’s not easy to hold a paint brush or understand instructions when living with Dementia or other cognitive conditions, especially at the mid to later stages. So it’s absolutely wonderful to see faces full of smiles and achievements…. ♥️

Out of respect for the residents' privacy and dignity, I choose to focus on their activities and accomplishments rather than featuring their faces. As always, it’s a shame you can’t see their smiles, but their confidentiality is more important.

Just had a beautiful morning with my lovely client.

I picked him up from the Care Home. He said ‘I got up early, because I knew you were coming. Where are we going today. I’ll go anywhere with you’

How lovely are those words. It was such a pleasure to see him as always.

We’ve been out to a Garden Centre for breakfast and smelling Roses in between these showers…. 🌹 ☔️

A very emotional session at Studley Rose Care Home yesterday with one resident. She’s achieved so much in her beautiful painting. With a cognitive condition that affects her mobility and dexterity it has been truely wonderful to support her in producing a masterpiece.

Four weeks ago, she expressed doubts about painting a landscape, saying "I'm not very good at painting, I won't be able to do it." But she's absolutely thrived! 🎉 With some creative experimentation using different techniques and materials beyond traditional paintbrushes, she's produced something amazing. The pride on her face is unforgettable. I'm thrilled she has experienced that sense of accomplishment again.

Other precious moments were had with the rest of the group as we listened to some ‘Elvis’ (one of the resident’s favourite people) while using water paints. There was a real sense of friendship and connection. It really is so important to connect and engage in a fun supportive environment.

Is it only Thursday morning?? Wow it has been a fun packed week already.

My clients and I have been having so much fun, heart felt moments, laughs, tears (yes it’s emotional at times) and so much engagement with community.

Tried a new place that I always thought we’d have to pay for entry, but that’s only if you want to go into the house- Harvington Hall, it’s such a lovely spot, again on our doorstep. We used the cafe and had a lovely time in the garden.

We’ve had our weekly trip to Upton Warren Lake to play chess. We love that place. ♟️

Willowbrook Garden Centre choosing flowers 🌺

Webb’s Garden Centre for breakfast 🍳

Studley Rose Care Home for weekly Sensory Engagement- more on that in a separate post.

Still two days of the week to go where I’ll be supporting a lady shopping and another client is learning to use a mobility scooter to become independent again, so I’ll be walking along side her while she gets confident with her route to the shops!

Exciting times ahead! I've got two new clients starting in a couple of weeks. I'm looking forward to taking them out, making connections, and bringing some fun to their lives through shared experiences and companionship.

Popped to the Castle today!! What a beautiful day and such a pleasure to take my client who loves history. Last time we visited around Christmas. Today, a totally new experience as the sun was shining and we could spend more time outdoors.

Thank you to Warwick Castle who are extremely accommodating to wheelchair users!

It’s quite a hilly place, so you do have to pick your routes carefully.

Working with individuals living with dementia is a truly special experience. Despite memory loss, their essence remains, and engaging in meaningful activities reveals their personality. Music, hobbies, and creative experiences like art bring a sense of joy and accomplishment.

This week at Studley Rose Care Home’s Sensory Engagement session, I led the group through their Art Therapy session again, where the residents progressed with their art pieces, enjoying water paints and canvas work with support. Seeing their pride and joy as they create something to cherish is so rewarding.

The weather has been fantastic and although I’ve been taking my clients all over the place I don’t have many photos from last week! I did get a few snaps of Arrow Valley, it really was stunning.

We’ve been trying to keep cool, while also enjoy the outdoors! A trip to Upton Warren, a trip to Arrow Valley, the Airfield, Willowbrook Garden Centre, Sanders Park, Burcott Park ……the list goes on!

What a joy to be back at Studley Rose Care Home for another uplifting Sensory Engagement Session- Art Therapy. I work with residents living with dementia or cognitive conditions, where fine motor skills and cognitive abilities may be impacted. Seeing their engagement is heartwarming, their faces light up with smiles and concentration. Many residents enjoy using Dementia Aquapaints, where the image appears with water, and the simple act of holding a brush and painting becomes a significant achievement. Some residents also work with acrylics on canvas, and over the coming weeks, their beautiful artwork will take shape in stages. It's a privilege to see them thrive creatively!

Shine a light on unpaid Carers….. 🤍🤍

Celebrating Carers Week ✨

Many families are caring for loved ones, young and old, Children, Parents, Grandparents, Husbands and Wives.

I’m giving a shout out to everyone caring for a loved one, but especially the families of my clients- you know who you are …. you are doing a fantastic job day in day out. Morning to night and through the night at times! It’s a strain on you, but you do it out of love and respect - You’re Amazing 🤩

This annual awareness campaign shines a spotlight on the incredible contributions of unpaid carers, acknowledging their tireless efforts and dedication. It's a chance for communities, organisations, and individuals to unite in supporting carers, addressing the challenges they face, and promoting vital resources to help them thrive. So take a moment to read what it’s all about. Take a moment to think if you know anyone that’s caring for their loved one! They’re Super Heroes 🦸 🦸‍♀️ 🤍
