Trigger finger may start as a small annoyance — a click, a catch, or stiffness first thing in the morning — but over time it can become painful and begin to affect everyday hand function. Early assessment can help identify the cause and guide the most suitable treatment, from simple conservative measures to more targeted options when needed. Mild symptoms are often easy to dismiss at first, especially when they come and go. But persistent pain, stiffness, clicking or weakness in the shoulder, elbow or hand can gradually begin to affect daily movement, grip, comfort and function. Early assessment can help identify the cause and guide the right treatment plan.

Shoulder replacement is not determined by age alone. The decision is based on the severity of pain, the extent of joint damage, shoulder function, and how much symptoms are affecting everyday life.

For some patients, surgery may be considered when pain and stiffness persist despite non-surgical treatment and daily activities become increasingly limited. A specialist assessment helps determine the most appropriate option for each individual.

Shoulder replacement may be considered when persistent pain, stiffness and loss of function begin to affect everyday life and other treatments are no longer providing enough relief.

There are different types of shoulder replacement, and the most suitable option depends on the condition of the joint, the degree of wear, and rotator cuff function. With the right assessment, surgery can help improve pain, restore function and support a gradual return to daily activities.

If shoulder pain is limiting your movement or quality of life, a specialist assessment can help determine the most appropriate treatment plan.

Behind every study are real patients.

Our newly published systematic review looks at conservative vs surgical treatment of midshaft clavicle fractures—aiming to support better, more informed decisions in patient care.

Grateful to lead this work that ultimately benefits those we treat. Proud for my co-authors who have an amazing career ahead of them.

Shoulder arthroscopy is a minimally invasive (keyhole) procedure used to diagnose and treat a range of shoulder problems through very small incisions (portals). It can be helpful in selected cases such as rotator cuff tendon tears, shoulder instability caused by labral injuries, while aiming to reduce soft-tissue disruption and support recovery.

If you have ongoing shoulder pain, weakness or restricted movement, an expert assessment can help identify the cause and guide the most appropriate treatment plan.

Always striving to bring the latest advances in shoulder care to my patients.

Today I attended an advanced cadaveric shoulder lab focused on rotator cuff repair and stabilisation techniques, organised by .sportsmedicine. These hands-on training opportunities are invaluable in refining surgical skills and improving outcomes.

I was also among the first surgeons in the UK to be introduced to the Knotilus+ knotless anchor system — an exciting innovation designed to enhance efficiency and precision in shoulder surgery.

Continuous learning means I can offer my patients the most up-to-date, evidence-based care with confidence.

Basketball puts repeated stress on the shoulder through shooting, passing, contact and strength training. While not every problem can be prevented, good preparation and sensible training habits can significantly reduce the risk of injury.

A proper warm-up, balanced strengthening and gradual progression play an important role in keeping the shoulder strong and stable. Just as importantly, persistent pain should never be dismissed as something to “push through”.

As Chief Medical Officer for the City of Birmingham Rockets, Mr Pantelis Tsantanis understands the physical demands sport places on the upper limb and the importance of early assessment, accurate diagnosis and the right treatment plan.

If shoulder pain is affecting your training or performance, seeking expert advice early can help prevent a smaller issue from becoming a longer-term problem.

Pleased to have completed the Advanced Trauma Medical Management in Football (ATMMiF) course with The Football Association at St George’s Park. ⚽️

In simple terms, this is specialist training designed to prepare doctors to manage serious medical emergencies on the football pitch — from head injuries to cardiac events — helping ensure players receive rapid, potentially life-saving care when it matters most.

This is a valuable step forward as I prepare to begin my new role in football medicine, with further details to be confirmed soon. I am looking forward to putting these skills into practice within a high-performance sporting environment.
