March is International Headache Awareness Month.

Many headaches are secondary in nature, meaning they originate from structures outside the head most commonly the cervical spine (neck).

Dysfunction in the upper neck, such as restricted joint movement, muscle tightness, or nerve irritation, can refer pain to the forehead, behind the eyes, temples, or scalp.

These are commonly known as cervicogenic headaches.

Physiotherapy plays an important role in management by:
* Improving cervical joint mobility
* Reducing muscle tension and stiffness
* Addressing nerve irritation
* Correcting posture and movement patterns
* Reducing headache frequency and recurrence

When headaches begin to interfere with daily activities, proper assessment and targeted treatment are essential for long-term relief.

Early physiotherapy intervention helps address the cause, not just the symptoms.
