The recovery position is a simple and effective way to keep an unconscious, breathing casualty safe. This will help to avoid - choking if they stay on their back and are sick. Smothering themselves if they roll onto their front.

Remember:
Check pockets for keys before you roll them.
Remove glasses - put them next to their head to keep them safe.
Roll towards you, for greater control.
Ensure the legs are not resting on top of each other.
Tilt the chin to keep the airway open.
Monitor them for breathing.
With pregnant women roll onto the left hand side where possible.
Get help on the way calling 999 and follow advice from the call handler.

When someone gets injured, remember the 3 P’s to provide immediate care:

Prevent – Stop the situation from getting worse. Ensure the area is safe for both you and the injured person.

Preserve – Protect the person’s life and prevent further injury. This may include checking breathing, controlling bleeding, or keeping them comfortable.

Promote – Help recovery by providing reassurance, first aid, and seeking professional medical help if needed.
