No one talks about 8 in the summer.

Because it’s that in-between age—
not quite a little kid,
not quite a tween.

8 is still chasing bubbles,
but also asking for their own Spotify playlist to blast in the background.

8 is swimming like a fish—
then needing you to wrap them in a towel
and hold them tight when they cry over nothing and everything.

8 is giggles in the sprinklers,
sass in the car no matter where we go,
and big feelings over the wrong flavor of ice cream.

8 is seeing your child playing dolls in the shade one minute
and dancing to Shakira with confidence and talking about a skincare routine the next.

8 is long legs in a swimsuit
and a voice that’s starting to sound older—
and you wonder,
“When did that baby of mine grow up?”

8 is halfway to driving,
halfway from being your newborn.

8 is emotional.
Creative.
Funny.
Loving.
Still learning who they are.

This summer, I’m soaking in all the in-between moments.
Because 𝘐 𝘭𝘰𝘷𝘦 𝘮𝘺 𝘬𝘪𝘥 𝘸𝘩𝘰’𝘴 𝟾.
