Kate Ward Massage & Pilates Level 4 qualified, fully-insured Remedial & Sports Massage Practitioner and Pilates Instructor

Deep tissue massage is about enabling your body to operate at its best. It helps to create, maintain or re-establish the most beneficial conditions for your body to heal and re-balance itself so it can continue with its ordinary and extraordinary work every day. You may have chronic back pain, neck and shoulder tension, or stiff and sore feet. Perhaps you are carrying an injury from sporting interests or your daily occupation. As well as the immediate physical discomfort you are also more likely to feel tired, irritable and often as though you've forgotten what it's like to move freely and ‘normally.’
So whether you sit at a desk all day, participate in sport, do a lot of driving, are on your feet all day or look after a small child, by having a massage you are taking the first step to restore your natural energy and perform at your best.

It’s a modest space but a lovely backdrop on days like this (or in any weather tbh) to chart the progress of my 1:1 Pilates clients. It’s always satisfying - and rewarding for their investment of time and money - to get into the nuances of what each client needs to take them to better body comfort and strength. Love my job! ❤️💪

Whilst making yourself feel better isn’t always this straightforward I love this handy list of such simple things that can shift the dial. They cost nothing, take very little time and you can combine more than one - I find that cold showers and singing are somehow inseparable!!!!
Also many of them can be even more impactful if you do them with someone - a friend, family member or colleague…though maybe not the cold shower one…😆

NEW YEAR'S RESONATIONS
These days, it seems that making New Year’s resolutions is out of fashion, an out-moded tradition. This didn’t stop me asking my kids what their resolutions would be. My 11 year old daughter declared in her wisdom that no-one keeps their New Year’s resolutions and are a waste of time. My seven year old son apparently intends “to be more naughty, more mischief-making and to try less at maths” – (sorry Mrs Newbury)!

Making New Year’s resolutions does indeed feel like a recipe for forgotten or broken promises to ourselves (although fingers crossed for this with my son) and potentially another thing to beat ourselves up about. And yet…with the change in year-digit on the clock comes a tingling of possibility and a mark in the dirt to (re)start from.

Of course by the distinguished age of nearly 50 years old (yes, that’s coming up this Spring!), I know that challenging, deflating and hard times crop up without plan or expectation to derail our resolutions. But I also know that in those times the breaking of our resolve has much to teach us about our limits, our barriers to progress and contentment and truly what is important to us. I also know that I am so, so lucky to have the sustenance of a fortunate life.

So, rather than making promises, I am turning to another end-of-year rumination to look back over 2024 (and beyond). I am remembering times when I have felt strong, more energised and connected and aim/hope to do more of that in 2025. I started to list these out and was happy to recall that my blessings are many from evenings with friends and cuddles with my family, to teaching Pilates with a class full of delightful people that feel like friends and the lift that comes from helping massage clients just feel easier in their bodies. From these choice nuggets the mark in the dirt seems clearer, to start from where you already are each, single day not where you think you ‘should’ be and follow what resonates with who you are now.

The Monday Mat is back tomorrow and dedicating the rest of June to introducing (or re-introducing) Pilates into your life.

This short series is ideal for those who want to dip their toes into Pilates for the first time or the first time in a while.

The pace will be low and slow whilst we cover the basics of core engagement, breath, control and more.

Prices are £10 or book all three sessions for £25. Do get in touch if you would like to book in.

Thanks and enjoy the sunshine!
