Deep tissue massage is about enabling your body to operate at its best. It helps to create, maintain or re-establish the most beneficial conditions for your body to heal and re-balance itself so it can continue with its ordinary and extraordinary work every day. You may have chronic back pain, neck and shoulder tension, or stiff and sore feet. Perhaps you are carrying an injury from sporting interests or your daily occupation. This Pilates class is for Beginner level, taking a steady pace, no pressure, with me to guide you into feeling and figuring it out for your own body (and mind).

We had a wonderful time doing the ‘Mat Pilates Foundations Workshop’ in November featuring two hours of learning about the core of the body, about Pilates, doing some actual exercises and laughing over cups of tea. So, I’ve decided to run it again on Friday 9th January, 1-3pm. This time, I am also adding a programme weekly follow up Pilates classes from Friday 16th, 2-3pm to really get practising.

It will be a small, cosy group in the toasty environment downstairs At The Chapel on Friday afternoons and will be run supportively with the emphasis on relaxed.

If you would like to start or indeed return to your Pilates practise then more details are attached I’d be delighted if you can join me (via DM/tel/email as below). Spaces are limited for maximum attention so will be essential to book in soon.

And if Beginners is not where you are at but would still like to join a local class, my class timetable for this New Year is also attached.

Ah yes, fresh starts, blank slates and resolutions abound! What a wonderful thought, to shrug off the sluggishness of Twixtmas and open that clean white page of January. Easier said than done of course but I hope I can help a little. With a bit of movement we will get the energy flowing and then the strength building and the lungs breathing and endorphins releasing.

I am enjoying hearing Jeremy Vine on Radio 2 today receiving a Sports Massage - I promise most of my clients do not yell like that! Still, it makes more entertaining radio. 😆

Sports Massage can be deep but it doesn't have to be. There are lots of techniques that don't have to make you yell out loud. And if the pressure is so deep that you start to tense your body it will always be counter-productive. I usually notice the signs of discomfort in my clients but if you ever receive a massage and are suffering through the deep pressure you must tell your therapist - including me! Equally, if your therapist is too gentle, do ask for more to avoid frustration!

Effective therapy benefits from good communication both ways...and added spaniel also helps!

Whilst making yourself feel better isn’t always this straightforward I love this handy list of such simple things that can shift the dial. They cost nothing, take very little time and you can combine more than one - I find that cold showers and singing are somehow inseparable!!!!
Also many of them can be even more impactful if you do them with someone - a friend, family member or colleague…though maybe not the cold shower one…😆

Whatever your plans are for 2025, if they include reconnecting to your body and to movement then I invite you, as a beginner or returner to Pilates/exercise to rebuild the foundations of your strength and body confidence. A purposely gentle class it is suitable for those rebuilding after time out from exercise whether due to injury, illness or life changes (e.g. little ones).
