Hope you all had a peaceful and happy Saint Dwynwen’s day over the weekend.
An interesting perspective in this video on the meaning behind it….
‘A quieter idea of love’ fits with Yogic teachings beautifully. The carefully carved Welsh wooden love spoon represents calm, care and compassion for others (in Yoga this compassion is termed ‘Ahimsa’) but also commitment and effort (‘Tapas’) . Considering others happiness as much as your own is key in Yoga as we foster feelings of unity rather than separateness- We are One.

Dydd Santes Dwynwen Hapus pawb! (Am ddoe!)
Happy St Dwynwen’s day everyone! (For yesterday!)

Enjoying the peaceful beauty of Winter at Brynna Community Garden today with the family before the busy routine of work and school begins again tomorrow.

I was reminded that at this time of year, nature rests. It slows down and conserves energy ready to blossom again in Spring. The trees have lost their leaves, many animals and insects hibernate.

There is often pressure this time of year to reinvent yourself, to be goal-oriented and productive. If some movement and energy is what you need this time of year to counteract the darker cold days and sluggish feeling post Christmas -go for it! If you need to cwtch up, give yourself permission.

The beauty of Yoga is that our practice can adapt to whatever we need- whether it’s a flowing Asana (movement) practice to stir up stagnant energy and warm us, or a quiet meditation.

In January, my Yoga practice is often a maintenance practice- nothing too fancy just quietly keeping on going . Keeping the body mobile and the spirit grounded as we accept this season for just what it is.

If you’re thinking of exploring Yoga in 2026, you’ll be more than welcome to join class. We practice Monday evenings 7:30pm at Brynna Community Centre.

New Year Gratitude 🙏🏼

To all the students who have come to class this year and shared their Yoga practice, thank you from the bottom of my heart. Without you there would be no class! Class resumes at Brynna Community Centre on Monday 12th January 2026. All welcome! You can book your space here: http://bookwhen.com/bethandaviesyoga

Looking forward to seeing you then!

As one year ends and another begins, it’s a great time to reflect on the good things in our lives and so I thought I’d share a short meditation on gratitude:

🪷Find yourself a quiet spot, let others know you’d like 5-10 minutes undisturbed.

🪷Choose a comfortable, seated position. This could be either on your mat, on a block or bolster or even a chair (sit upright rather than leaning onto the back rest and have feet flat on the floor- use a support under the feet if needed).

🪷Begin by grounding yourself in the body. You could make a scan of your body from head to toe- bringing your awareness to each part, or if time is shorter, perhaps just focussing on sensation in the feet… then seat….then hands.

🪷Bring your awareness to your breath. Breathing softly, through the nose if you can. Notice the presence of the breath, its rhythm, movement, temperature, sound.

🪷Bring to mind a possession you have. This could be an everyday object such as a coat or pair of walking boots, a tool you use for your work, or an object associated with a pastime such as a musical instrument or bicycle.

🪷Once you have something in mind, think about the joy or usefulness it has given you this year, the walks or rides you’ve been on, what you’ve accomplished with it… etc. Send your thanks to that object (for keeping you warm and dry, for helping you achieve or create something- try to be specific!)

🪷Rest in gratitude for a few more moments before bringing the awareness back to the breath, the body, gradually introducing some movement and a stretch.

This is a great meditation to do in the moment, too. I experienced this on a bike ride today on my beloved 15-year-old Trek hybrid bike with my little girl in the child seat on the back. She said to me as we whizzed along a country lane, spotting horses and sheep…“Mammy…I love being here!”. I sent my thanks to my bike in that moment! 🚴‍♀️

Practicing gratitude for what we have not only increases our joy and contentment but it can also have the potential to help us save money and the planet by reducing our consumption. As we focus on what we have, (rather than what we lack) we become more mindful of our spending, so that our purchases will truly add value to our lives, rather than become a source of regret.

Happy New Year! Blwyddyn Newydd Dda… wishing you health and happiness!

Om Shanti

Merry Christmas everybody! I hope it’s happy and peaceful however you spend it. ❤️

Might you have empty choccie tubs after Christmas? 🍫

First consider re-purposing them for storage at home, but if that is not needed then feel free to bring them into class after Christmas and I can take them up to precious polymers Cymru when I’m next up in that neck of the woods! ♻️🎄🧑‍🎄🧘🏻‍♀️

We hope you enjoy yourselves this Christmas but can we ask a favour? 🤝

Can you save us your empty plastic tubs please? 🍬🍫

Then drop them into the Crop Cycle Treherbert from Jan 7th 📍

We will recycle them into products for the community ♻️

Together we can save them from landfill 💪🏻

What a wonderful article to read and what an inspirational person Charlotte Chopin is. It goes to show that Yoga sequences don’t need to be complicated and fancy- simplicity, consistency and practicing with gratitude and awareness is the way forward! ❤️

When a fitness reporter traveled to a village in France to meet centenarian yoga teacher Charlotte Chopin, she was reminded that movement didn’t have to be complicated.
