New Year Gratitude 🙏🏼
To all the students who have come to class this year and shared their Yoga practice, thank you from the bottom of my heart. Without you there would be no class! Class resumes at Brynna Community Centre on Monday 12th January 2026. All welcome! You can book your space here: http://bookwhen.com/bethandaviesyoga
Looking forward to seeing you then!
As one year ends and another begins, it’s a great time to reflect on the good things in our lives and so I thought I’d share a short meditation on gratitude:
🪷Find yourself a quiet spot, let others know you’d like 5-10 minutes undisturbed.
🪷Choose a comfortable, seated position. This could be either on your mat, on a block or bolster or even a chair (sit upright rather than leaning onto the back rest and have feet flat on the floor- use a support under the feet if needed).
🪷Begin by grounding yourself in the body. You could make a scan of your body from head to toe- bringing your awareness to each part, or if time is shorter, perhaps just focussing on sensation in the feet… then seat….then hands.
🪷Bring your awareness to your breath. Breathing softly, through the nose if you can. Notice the presence of the breath, its rhythm, movement, temperature, sound.
🪷Bring to mind a possession you have. This could be an everyday object such as a coat or pair of walking boots, a tool you use for your work, or an object associated with a pastime such as a musical instrument or bicycle.
🪷Once you have something in mind, think about the joy or usefulness it has given you this year, the walks or rides you’ve been on, what you’ve accomplished with it… etc. Send your thanks to that object (for keeping you warm and dry, for helping you achieve or create something- try to be specific!)
🪷Rest in gratitude for a few more moments before bringing the awareness back to the breath, the body, gradually introducing some movement and a stretch.
This is a great meditation to do in the moment, too. I experienced this on a bike ride today on my beloved 15-year-old Trek hybrid bike with my little girl in the child seat on the back. She said to me as we whizzed along a country lane, spotting horses and sheep…“Mammy…I love being here!”. I sent my thanks to my bike in that moment! 🚴♀️
Practicing gratitude for what we have not only increases our joy and contentment but it can also have the potential to help us save money and the planet by reducing our consumption. As we focus on what we have, (rather than what we lack) we become more mindful of our spending, so that our purchases will truly add value to our lives, rather than become a source of regret.
Happy New Year! Blwyddyn Newydd Dda… wishing you health and happiness!
Om Shanti
