So many busy people can mask stress.

What do I mean by masking stress?

It means you don’t know you are stressed or carrying stress until something gives up in the body.

My client said to me that she hurt her back. She was in so much pain and couldn’t go to work.

I said that’s stress. Her response was, ‘but Annie I don’t feel stressed!’

I explained, sometimes you are so busy that there is no time to feel. But when you are recurring injury happens for no reason then that’s your body giving up and warning you that there is something going on in your life that you are unaware of.

I said you are stressed. You are a single parent, you are worried about your kid, you are studying, you have deadlines for your course work to complete plus you have to complete a certain number of therapies to complete to pass the course.

Sometimes we don’t know we are stressed because there is not time to stop and feel.

This is the most dangerous of stresses because it is masked.

So, are you masking stress? Are you aware of the stresses in your life or do you believe you are falsely resilient?

This is something you learn in Lighthouse Mastermind.

You get to unmask hidden stresses and notice what’s truly going on for you and why.

With my client there was a hidden contrast between a strong belief and strong desire that caused her to take contrasting actions. This led to masked stress which manifested in her body as back pain to get her to take a deeper look at was going on for her within her psyche.

It’s all interlinked and unless you are aware of how to solve these problems, they will get bigger and manifest as problems to solve.

Finding balance between doing and being is an important part of managing stress when running a business.

I know this one all too well. I can be very driven and get off kilter between doing and being.

So, be mindful about your habits.

Understand the underlying drive for your habits.

Habits are formed because there is a belief that it serves us on some level.

So if you have a habit of doing and not enough being take time to understand why this may be the case.

This is just one of the things we learn in Lighthouse Mastermind. Learning when to drive and when to surrender as a passenger.

I call it ebb and flow.

As emotional beings our emotions can get the better of us, especially during times we don’t want it to. Like just before an important meeting.

Our emotions can make us feel drained, tired, pressurised, anxious and so much more.

We have learnt that suppressing our emotions does not work. Hence the rise in mental health challenges both with individuals and the overwhelmed health services.

So is there a way to manage emotions and still turn up for our day, feeling confident and calm?

Yes!

Learning emotional regulation techniques are important. As important as oxygen for our lungs to breathe.

We have been gifted the energy of emotions and yet we are still learning how to navigate our emotions and live a happy and peaceful life.

If you are struggling with emotional disregulation then you are not alone.

I am creating a community to help entrepreneurs and employees learn simple techniques and tools to regulate their emotions.

Your products and services are a result of you! Even if you are buying and product to sell. It’s you that’s choosing it.

So in order for your business to grow, you need to grow.

And when you grow, boy is it stressful.

You feel like this business thing is not working for you.

Stress management is energy management for resilience - redirecting thoughts, changing emotional state, telling a new story and a changing limiting beliefs that no longer serve you so you can create the future you want. Stress management is requiring the brain so you release the trigger that caused the stress reaction.

Stress relief is relieving the symptoms of the physical sensation of stress.
So you do this by healthy habits such as going for a walk, spa treatments, talking to a friend or unhealthy habits of comfort eating, drinking alcohol, over sleeping, binge watching. But the trigger of the stress has not really been resolved.

Now we all need healthy stress relief. But it’s the 2nd stage to managing stress.

Here are the stages:

1. Awareness - Being aware you are stressed and what was the trigger
2. Stress Relief - Relieve the Symptoms of stress
3. Build Resilience to manage energy and reduce the symptoms of stress before it even begins.
4. Transform stress into positive energy. Release the triggers and rewire your brain for positivity. This is where you proactively get to create the life you want.

These stages are interchangeable for example, you could start building resilience first before becoming aware of stress symptoms. Or you could start to release triggers which can cause symptoms of stress in the body.

We are multifaceted being which means we may not go through these stages in chronological order.

In a world where perfection is often idolised, many of us find ourselves on an endless quest to achieve it. We aim for perfect careers, perfect bodies, perfect homes, and perfect lives. But here's the hard truth: perfection is an illusion. The relentless pursuit of perfection can lead to stress, burnout, and a sense of perpetual dissatisfaction. It's time to shift our mindset and start embracing the concept of "good enough."

Why Do We Strive for Perfection?

✅ Societal Pressure: From a young age, we're bombarded with messages that equate success with flawlessness.

✅ Fear of Failure**: Many people believe that anything less than perfect is a failure. This fear can paralyze us and prevent us from even starting tasks or projects.

✅ Validation and Acceptance: We often seek external validation to feel accepted and worthy. Perfectionism is sometimes a way to prove our value to others.

So what’s the downside of perfectionism?

❎ Impact on our Mental Health: The pursuit of perfection is linked to higher levels of anxiety, depression, and other mental health issues. The constant stress of trying to be perfect can take a significant toll on our well-being.

❎ Procrastination and Paralysis: Perfectionism can lead to procrastination. The fear of not being able to achieve perfect results can prevent us from taking action.

❎ Reduced Creativity and Innovation**: Creativity thrives on trial and error. When we focus on perfection, we stifle our creative instincts and hinder our ability to innovate.

❎ Strained Relationships: Holding ourselves and others to unrealistic standards can strain relationships. It can lead to disappointment, resentment, and conflict.

Here are 3 practical steps to embrace 'Good Enough'

✅ Set Realistic Goals: Aim for achievable and realistic goals instead of perfection. Break tasks into smaller, manageable steps.

✅ Practice Self-Compassion: Treat yourself with kindness and understanding. Acknowledge your efforts and progress rather than focusing solely on the end result.

✅ Challenge Perfectionist Thoughts: When you catch yourself striving for perfection, question the necessity of it. Ask yourself if 'good enough' could suffice.

The thing is, perfection is an unattainable goal that can drain our joy and peace. By shifting our focus from perfect to "good enough," we can lead happier, more fulfilling lives. Embrace imperfection, prioritize your mental health, and appreciate the beauty is in the journey.
