ADHD is not simply about “hyperactivity.”
It is a nervous system that is working overtime. This lovely lad comes every week to see Dr Simi, today he brought her a tulip and mum said he felt “happy” after the session. At first you could see his nervous system on overdrive, restless and scanning, now he lies still and even engages in the bumblebee breath technique without being prompted! Mum reports the immediate benefit of bringing her son for acupuncture.
Many children with ADHD experience a constant state of internal stimulation — difficulty switching off, racing thoughts, sensory overload, and challenges with focus or emotional regulation.
At The Little Buckingham Clinic, we support children with gentle acupuncture and Marmapuncture, working with the body’s natural regulatory systems to help restore calm and balance.
In traditional East Asian medicine and Ayurveda, these symptoms are often understood as an overactive wind or Vata pattern in the nervous system — where energy moves too quickly through the body and mind.
By stimulating specific points on the body we can help:
• Calm the nervous system
• Improve focus and attention
• Support emotional regulation
• Improve sleep quality
• Reduce anxiety and restlessness
Treatments are very gentle, and many children find sessions deeply relaxing.
When the nervous system learns how to settle, the child can begin to access their natural strengths — creativity, curiosity, intelligence, and imagination.
Every child’s pattern is unique, which is why treatment is always personalised.
Supporting the nervous system early can make a profound difference to a child’s wellbeing, learning, and confidence.
✨ Sometimes the body simply needs the right signals to remember how to be calm.
