From years of university-level training to delivering regulated, evidence-informed care, chiropractors are MSK (musculoskeletal) specialists dedicated to improving movement, mobility, and overall health across the UK.

Chiropractic is a highly regulated healthcare profession, with extensive research supporting its safety and effectiveness. In the UK, chiropractors are legally regulated and must follow strict codes of practice - just like doctors and dentists. This regulation ensures consistency in education, high standards of training, and protection for patients using this protected title.

BCA chiropractors go beyond hands-on care. They integrate cognitive and lifestyle-based interventions, offering personalised advice on work, exercise, and daily habits to support long-term recovery. They also use functional rehabilitation and spinal stabilisation programmes to address persistent problems and reduce the risk of recurrence.

To become a chiropractor in the UK, students complete a four-year full-time Master’s Degree at one of the accredited universities in the country. BCA members take this commitment a step further, completing post-registration training with the Royal College of Chiropractors.

Chiropractic training covers a comprehensive range of medical knowledge and clinical skills, including:

ā—¾Anatomy and physiology

ā—¾Orthopaedics and neurology

ā—¾Diagnostic imaging (X-ray and MRI)

ā—¾Nutrition and histopathology

ā—¾Rehabilitation

ā—¾Care of older patients and paediatrics

ā—¾General diagnosis (e.g. blood pressure, cardiac and respiratory exams, abdominal assessment)

This breadth of training allows chiropractors to take a whole-person approach and tailor care to each individual. There’s no one-size-fits-all treatment; every care plan is guided by the patient’s needs, preferences, and expectations.

As most chiropractic care is delivered in private practice, patient choice is paramount, and clinicians can utilise a full range of tools and techniques, without the limitations often found in other care settings -when clinically appropriate.

Back Home After an Unforgettable Journey
After an incredible few weeks of South African adventures and precious time with family, I’m finally back home. It’s always hard to leave—I still consider South Africa my true home in many ways.

That said, it’s been lovely to be reunited with my cats (who are definitely enjoying the extra fuss!). The weather here has been fantastic, and I’ve really appreciated some much-needed rest and recovery in the garden.

Back in clinic tomorrow and looking forward to seeing all my lovely patients again—refreshed, recharged, and grateful.

Day 10: Elephant Encounters and Monkey Mischief
Today was another unforgettable adventure, filled with some of the most incredible animal encounters I’ve ever experienced.

I had the chance to get up close with the elephants—feeding them, walking beside them, and even gently touching these magnificent creatures. Being so close to them, feeling their rough skin and seeing the kindness in their eyes, was truly humbling. They are such gentle giants, full of character and calm strength. It’s a memory I’ll hold onto for a very long time.

After the elephants, I spent time with some much smaller but equally entertaining creatures—the monkeys! Their playful energy was infectious. I couldn’t help but laugh watching them jump around and interact with everyone. My absolute favourites were the spider monkeys, with their cheeky personalities, and the lemurs, who were so curious and full of life.

It’s days like this that make me feel so connected to the beauty of nature and the amazing creatures we share the world with.

Day 6: From Quiet Walks to Wild Roads
Yesterday was all about slowing down—relaxing around the accommodation and braving a hot but rewarding 6km walk (made totally worth it by an ice-cold coffee milkshake at the end!).

Today we switched gears with a self-drive through Kruger. We were lucky to spot elephants, buck, zebra, giraffe, hippos, vultures, a striking kingfisher, and more throughout the day.

Then, just when we thought the day was winding down, Kruger delivered one last gift—right before the park gates closed, a group of lazy lions appeared by the roadside. The ultimate surprise ending to a beautiful day.
