I remember this campaign when it first came out years ago and to be honest it was one of the best anti-drink drive ads ever.
Sadly it wouldn't be able to be show in this day and age.

Having been witness to too many drink or drug driving injuries and fatalities over our careers, sadly the message still isn't getting accross.

IF YOU DRINK, DON'T DRIVE.
IF YOU PLAN TO DRIVE - DON'T DRINK

Doesn't get any simpler than that really!!

This old chestnut keeps popping up and seems to be doing the rounds on facebook. IT'S FALSE.
The only treatment for a heart attack is hospital care and treatment

There's lots of post about cough CPR to save yourself during a heart attack

This is one of those posts that looks helpful — but it contains dangerous and outdated information that could cost a life, not save one.

Let’s be absolutely clear:

❌ “Cough CPR” is NOT a treatment for heart attack

Coughing repeatedly to keep yourself alive during a heart attack is a myth, and every modern clinical guideline warns against it.
Cough CPR is ONLY used in a hospital, under medical supervision, when a patient is already on a monitor and a clinician is managing an arrhythmia — not for someone sitting alone in a car or at home with chest pain.

Sharing incorrect medical advice with good intentions is still harmful.

---

What is true and important to know:

🔥 Heart attack symptoms can vary between individuals
Chest pain, radiating arm/jaw pain, sudden sweating, nausea, shortness of breath, back discomfort — especially in women — are all recognised signs.

If you think you are having a heart attack:

✔️ The correct response is simple and medically supported:

1. Stop what you are doing immediately.

2. Call Emergency Services (999 in the UK)
Do not attempt to drive yourself.

3. If advised and appropriate, chew one 300mg aspirin unless allergic or contraindicated.

4. Unlock your door, stay calm, stay still, wait for help to arrive.

5. If you collapse and stop breathing — that’s when CPR is required, not coughing.

Early recognition + early access to emergency care saves lives.
Not cough-CPR. Not myths. Not chain-shares.

Fantastic day Thursday at Cheshire & Warrington Local Skills Improvement Plan (LSIP) convention Chester Race Course. Outstanding speakers and organisations. All dedicated to equality, diversity and inclusion, very inspiring.

Every day, thousands of frontline workers carry invisible wounds.
The shift may have ended — but the flashbacks, nightmares, and anxiety don’t clock off.

PTSD isn’t weakness. It’s a natural response to trauma.
It’s what happens when the mind has seen too much and the heart has held it all in for too long.

Let’s break the silence. Let’s talk about it.
Because healing begins the moment someone feels seen, heard, and believed.

If you’re struggling, you are not alone.
Reach out. Talk. Share. There is always help — and always hope.

Love this. While in the UK we do not check for a pulse the sentiment is the same.
Recognition of a cardiac arrest is vital as is calling for help

If person (adult) is unconscious and either not breathing or has infrequent irregular gasps we need to start CPR.

THESE GASPS ARE NOT BREATHS - THIS IS A CARDIAC ARREST

So
1) Shout for help

2) Call 999 - put your mobile on speakerphone so you're hands free

3) Start CPR - the ambulance services will talk you through how to do this - Even if you know how

4) when someone else arrives, get an AED . The ambulance service will tell you where the nearest one is if you don't know. They will also give you the access code if there is one.
DO NOT LEAVE THE CASUALTY ON THEIR OWN TO GET AN AED

5) keep going for as long you can if on your own, or swap frequently (max every TWO minutes) if more than one rescuers.

DO YOUR BEST - thats all anyone can ask of you.

REMEMBER :
CPR /AED = Chance of living

NO CPR/AED = GUARANTEED DEATH.

As some of you are already aware, I managed to get roped into doing a charity fire walk for this amazing charity Wirral Hospice St John's .
I only turned up to support their staff and supporters who were already raising money.
But what a privilege it was to join in and a massive thank you to all the amazing fundraising team at the hospice, the fire guys (and lady) who made the night as fun and safe as walking on 1100 degree coals could be.
I realise times are tight, Christmas etc around the corner but of anyone can spare a £ or 2 for this amazing cause, I would be eternally grateful.
Many thanks

Help Neil Hayward raise money to support Wirral Hospice St John's
