// what is creativity to you? //
I've haven't always felt like a 'creative' person in the sense that my preconceived ideas of creativity have been painting, drawing, making clothes, all those art forms of creation. This is until lately, I've been working to change my mindset, embracing my slightly weird uniqueness and letting creativity carve my days, listening in to find that inner flow. I've realised that being creative can come in all shapes and sizes, you can be creative with the way you move through your day, your ways of thinking and performing daily activities can be creative. I guess, in a sense I've realised that, for me, creativity is freedom to let go of habitual ways of doing things, freedom to be open to new ideas & to other people's input. Letting go of ridgity in the mind and body births creativity.
The definition of creativity is; use of imagination or ideas to create something; inventiveness.
This 'something' can be anything, it doesnt have to be an object.
As children we were encouraged to use our imagination, a Childrens Yoga session is all about imagination but as adults I feel this is encouraged much less.
In a way I forgot how to use this imagination for a long while, meditation, and being around inspiring people helped me find this again - along with reading non-fiction books! Imagination is the key to creativity, we know that what we think & the stories our mind tells us, creates our reality. So, get creative with your thoughts, challenge yourself when you feel those rigid patterns coming in, such as I must do 'this' then 'this'. Imagine your life exactly the way you hope it to be and watch the creativity pour out to guide you along the path to create your dreams. It goes without saying that we meet challenges and not everything works the way we hope it too (for me I believe in everything is an opportunity to learn) but isn't that also part of being creative with your life, finding new ways to pick yourself up, &finding new creative ways to sit with yourself in the lows.
