Get yourself a funeral director that is genuinely invested in his community 😀

A big thank you to Simon Savage from Otter Valley Funerals - Budleigh Salterton and to all of the other lovely people who came to our Budleigh Connector Workshop this morning. What a great bunch! It was a genuine pleasure to spend time with this group and hopefully everybody found the workshop useful and informative.

If you live, work or volunteer in Budleigh and you care about community then this free 2 hour workshop at Seachange is for you. The next available dates are Monday 18th May from 11-1pm and Wednesday 3rd June from 8.30-10.30am. More dates will be released soon....

When people hear the word “independent,” it can mean different things.

For me, it’s simple.

It means having the time to listen properly, without rushing you through decisions.

It means having the flexibility to do what feels right for you and your family, rather than following a fixed process.

It means every detail can be shaped around the person you’re saying goodbye to, not around a system.

I’m not tied to set ways of doing things.

I’m guided by what matters most to you.

That might be something traditional, or something more personal.

Either way, the focus stays the same - making sure everything feels right.

Being independent allows me to support you in a way that feels calm, considered, and personal.

If you’re starting to think about arrangements and don’t know where to begin, I’m here to help you take the first step.

When you come to me, you’re not speaking to a call centre or a large organisation.

You’re speaking to me, Simon.

From the very first conversation, I’m the one who listens, guides, and supports you through everything that needs to be done.

I understand how overwhelming this time can feel.

There’s a lot to think about, and often very little time to take it all in.

That’s why I keep things simple.

There’s no rushing, no pressure, and no being passed from person to person.

Everything is done at your pace, in your way.

Every family is different, and every goodbye should reflect that.

Whether you already know what you’d like or you’re unsure where to begin, I’ll help you make the right decisions for you and your loved one.

Being an independent, family-run business allows me to give you the time, care, and flexibility you deserve.

You’re not just another service to arrange.

You’re a family trusting me at one of the most important moments in life.

And I take that responsibility personally.

If you ever need guidance, even if it’s just a question, you can always come directly to me.

Exciting news!!! After 4.5 years of running around like a headless chicken between the Budleigh and Exmouth office let me introduce our new Funeral Administrator Sophie!!!
Sophie has been a close family friend for many years and when the time finally came that I realised I’m not superman and can’t do it alone, Sophie was the perfect choice to provide the personal attention that makes Otter Valley what it is. Sophie will float between the two offices as required and cover out of hours phones too 😊

We wholeheartedly support the governments decision to regulate the funeral profession.
We voluntarily open ourselves up to inspection from the National Association of Funeral Directors to demonstrate the standards to which we work to.
It is abhorrent that there is no legal requirement for us to do so when the care of people at their most vulnerable time is at stake. Our doors are always open should you have any questions. Simon

We welcome the announcement from Health Secretary Wes Streeting MP on plans to lead on the regulation of the funeral sector.

For families, this matters. Everyone deserves to know their loved one will be treated with dignity, respect and care and that those who fall short will be held to account.

For our profession, it’s equally important that any changes recognise the reality: the vast majority of funeral professionals uphold the highest standards every day, supporting people through their most difficult moments with compassion and integrity.

We will work with Government to help shape regulation that protects the public, while standing up for the professionalism and commitment of our members.

Dignity in death isn’t optional but the standard our profession is built on

Hugely proud to donate this coffin to the team at Lympstone CTCRM today.
Handed over to Sgt Liam Sheridan DL1 today for use during their tracing and drill exercises.
We are proud of our links to our armed forces and being an Armed Forces Covenant signatory, I strongly believe these gestures help serve those who serve.

A month into the new year so a little behind the curve but as we continue to push price transparency across our profession we offer these inclusive packages as well as our bespoke funeral service. Visits to our chapel of rest are ALWAYS included as I don’t believe our care should change at the funeral home whether anyone is going to the service or not.
Trust your local, independent funeral director here in Budleigh.

We talk about family run but what does that mean? Well it means our “new boy” that has joined the pallbearing team is my Dad! 78 years young and helping our family care for yours just how it should be. Oh and don’t worry, shorter trousers are in the post!
