Looking at the beautiful clouds on my lunchtime walk, I thought how much they look like fluffy cotton wool balls. I then started to think about how many clumps of cotton wool fibres I've removed from patients' ears recently, particularly those who claim they haven't put anything in their ears! Hmmmm! 🤔 Do not put cotton wool/buds or tissue in your ears. If you have queries on this, please call me for advice. I have leaflets on general ear care if you would like one.

People ask me why I like my job? It's apparently "gross". Ear wax is not gross, it's your pal, but that's a post for another day.
One reason I like my job is the sights I see and hear, that I could never see if I still worked in the hospital or office. Today's examples:
1. A boat being expertly moored in a small marina from a client's window.⛵
2. A group of Alpacas being taken for a walk.
3. Watching tourists on the beach from another client's window and being thankful that I can visit the beach whenever I want.🏖️
4. The sun.☀️
5. Watching a seagull diligently using the Green Cross Code by crossing the road at a pelican crossing.🚦🤣
6. The smiles dawning on clients faces when they realised they could hear again.😃
That's not to mention the 3 life sized Daleks attempting to exterminate passing cars, the chap who takes a Boa Constrictor for a walk, a group of goats taking themselves on a hike through a village....sooo many sights!

I appreciate hearing, seeing and feeling my surroundings. If I can help others to experience that, what's not to like!

❓❓When did you last look at your ears? Difficult when they're on the side of your head!
A vital part of earwax removal is also assessing the whole of your outer ear from the condition of the skin, structure of the ear, all the way to your eardrum. I'm looking for anything unusual/abnormal. In the last four months I have observed one pre-cancerous lesion and another where the client is now awaiting removal of a cancerous lesion via the hospital. Both occasions are likely due to sun exposure.
If you have noticed any new changes to the skin on your ears, particularly scaly plaques or bleeding without prior trauma, please seek a GP review or contact me for a complimentary assessment. I can liaise with your GP if required.
