Pets are family, and too many owners say they’re bracing themselves for the bill before they’ve even stepped through the door.

The Competition and Markets Authority has warned that market problems could cost households up to £1 billion over five years, with vet prices rising much faster than inflation. 📈

To tackle this, the Government have announced plans to reform the sector for the first time in 60 years (long overdue!).

What the plans would do:
• Require practices to publish price lists for common treatments, so you can compare and plan ahead
• Make practices clearly disclose who owns them (independent or part of a wider chain)
• Introduce an operating licence for every practice—like GP surgeries and care homes—strengthening accountability and standards
• Improve the complaints process and oversight of businesses, as well as professionals
• Provide legal recognition for veterinary nurses to strengthen professional identity, helping improve job satisfaction and boost retention rates

Over the past few weeks we have had the pleasure of visiting a new veterinary practice to install their medical gas oxygen system complete with oxygen generator running the practice and anaesthetic gas scavenging system
