🌿 Meet Jethro Rowland – Acupuncturist & Chinese Medical Herbalist
Jethro Rowland is a highly experienced Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) practitioner with over 30 years of clinical experience in acupuncture and Chinese herbal medicine.
His journey into TCM began in the early 1980s through a deep interest in Eastern philosophy. While travelling extensively in the Far East and Australia, Jethro was drawn to the holistic nature of Oriental medicine — treating not just symptoms, but the root cause of illness and addressing the whole person.
On returning to the UK, Jethro trained at the London School of Acupuncture and Traditional Chinese Medicine (now part of Westminster University), qualifying in 1991. He later completed additional training in Chinese Herbal Medicine at the London Academy of Oriental Medicine, qualifying in 1995.
Jethro has since practised full time across London and Hertfordshire, treating a wide range of conditions. He has particular expertise in:
• Addiction support (alcohol, substance misuse, and prescribed medication)
• Skin disorders
• Stress and anxiety
• Gynaecological issues
He currently works as a consultant practitioner at Resolve, a drug and alcohol treatment centre in Hertfordshire, and is now offering appointments at Attend2Health in Buntingford.
Jethro is a member of the Association of Traditional Chinese Medicine (ATCM), and serves on its Professional Conduct Committee, helping to uphold high standards in the profession.

Wow 5 years since we moved premises! Amazing to see how the clinic has grown in the past 5 years.

I'm also very proud of how we have tried to make it more environmentally friendly too with double glazed windows, solar panels and LED lighting and lots of loft insulation.

☀️ Vitamin D & Winter Health ☀️

During the winter months, many of us don’t get enough sunlight — which can lead to low levels of Vitamin D, which plays an important role in keeping our bodies healthy. With increases in both colds and flu at this time of year, it’s especially important to support your immune system.

What is Vitamin D and how do we get it?

Vitamin D is made naturally by the body when sunlight shines on the skin. In the UK, from October to March, we cannot produce enough vitamin D through sunlight alone, due to the reduced daylight hours and time spent outdoors.

Why is Vitamin D important?

Vitamin D:

Helps keep teeth and bones strong by aiding calcium absorption
Supports muscle strength, helping muscles contract and relax
Supports the nervous system, allowing nerve messages to travel around the body
Plays a role in supporting a healthy immune system

You may be at risk of Vitamin D deficiency if you are:

Pregnant/breastfeeding
Over the age of 65 years
Have a darker skin tone
Have a higher body mass index (BMI)
Have a condition which may prevent your body’s ability to absorb vitamin D (e.g. Crohn’s disease or coeliac disease)

Symptoms of Vitamin D deficiency can include:

Fatigue
Low mood or depression
Seasonal Affective Disorder (SAD)
Bone or back pain
Muscle aches
Feeling unwell more often

How can we increase Vitamin D levels?

💊 Supplements:

Vitamin D supplements are widely available in supermarkets, pharmacies and health foods shops. Look out for Vitamin D3 as this is the most effective, however vitamin D2 is a plant-based alternative suitable for a vegetarian/vegan diet.

It is recommended that adults and children over the age of 4 years consider taking 10 micrograms during the colder months.
For those in the at-risk groups (see above): consider taking 10 micrograms all year round.
For babies under one year: give 8.5-10 micrograms (unless they have more than 500ml of fortified formula milk).
(Dosages can vary, if you have been told you have high calcium levels or are taking medications for kidney/liver/heart or related conditions, please check with your GP or pharmacist before starting supplementation).

🥗 Diet:

When taking vitamin D supplements, you can still eat food sources of vitamin D. The best food sources include:

Oily fish such as salmon or mackerel
Egg yolks
Fortified foods with vitamin D, such as breakfast cereals and unsweetened soya drinks

If you’re feeling run down, achy, or catching illnesses more frequently, it may be worth considering your Vitamin D levels this winter.

If you’d like help staying fit and well throughout the colder months, why not speak with our Dietitian: Anna Whitaker for tailored advice and support.

Our Story

At Attend2Health we aim to find the best solution to your pain. Not only can we help to alleviate symptoms through our chiropractors, osteopaths, physiotherapists and massage therapists we are then passionate about preventing problems returning through exercises. We offer free consultations so give us a call on 01763 878087 and see if we think we could help you. We can then make sure you get the right treatment for your problem.

As you can see from our reviews we love to help people and are keen to get you feeling better.

We usually start by asking questions to find out what’s wrong and then doing an examination to see what’s happening with the joints, muscles and nerves.

Once we have done all the tests we will come to a diagnosis and let you know if we can treat you or if you need further testing or to go back to the GP. If we can help there are a number of treatment options from massage, manipulation, acupuncture and exercises to name a few.
