ADVANCE NOTICE:
The Surgery will be closed from 1pm on Wednesday 24th September for our next training afternoon.
This closure has been agreed by the local commissioning board (BOB ICB) to allow GP practices across Oxfordshire facilitate training for their practice team.
If you require medical attention, please do not ring the surgery but contact NHS 111. If you require urgent or immediate treatment, please attend Urgent Care or if life threatening consider attendance at A & E.
For any non-urgent queries or bookings, we would ask that you call the surgery on an alternative day.
Many thanks in advance for your co-operation and support in this matter.
We will be open again on Thursday as usual from 08:00.

Help the NHS to reduce medicines waste – ‘together we can make a difference’

The local NHS is urging patients to carry out simple tasks to help reduce medicines
waste. These include checking how much prescription medication you have at home
before ordering more and checking the expiry date on your medicines. You can also
get advice from a pharmacist around prescription medicines.
From September, patients can join a Digital Café across Bucks, Oxon and Berks West for support and advice on using the NHS App to order your prescription medication – for details on
times and locations of these Digital Cafés, see here

https://www.bucksoxonberksw.icb.nhs.uk/digital-cafes/

For further tips and advice visit
the StayWellBOB website which includes five short videos on how to reduce
medicines waste.

Important Update Regarding Carterton Health Centre

Both Burford Surgery and Bampton Surgery currently provide care from the Carterton Health Centre site. However, the site itself is owned by Burford Surgery.

Over the past two years, we have experienced a significant 14% growth in our patient list, resulting in increased demand for services. In response, we have already expanded our team by an additional seven members. However, to continue delivering high-quality care and meet the growing needs of our patient population at Carterton Health Centre, we now need to further expand our staffing and service capacity. To enable this, we will not be renewing the lease for Bampton Surgery and will instead utilise the whole site for services from Burford Surgery.

We would like to reassure all patients that, if they wish to continue receiving care at Carterton, they will be able to register with Burford Surgery.

We would like to emphasise that these changes will not come into effect until February 2026, so there is no need for patients to take immediate action as prior to this date there will be limited capacity until the additional space is available.

For patients already registered with Burford Surgery, services at Carterton Health Centre will continue as normal. In fact, we expect to offer a more accessible and enhanced service from this site going forward.

Our team has unfortunately been struck with illness, and we are currently experiencing significant staff shortages. We kindly ask for your patience and support during this rare situation.
The main areas affected are Reception and Dispensary, which means it may take longer for your calls to be answered.
In the Dispensary, we are operating with only one team member instead of four. To help us manage effectively and meet deadlines:
Please do not come early or request medication items earlier than usual.
The Dispensary will be closed on August 28th & 29th between 1–3 pm to minimise disruption and allow us to catch up safely.
We appreciate your understanding and cooperation as we work hard to continue providing you with the best care possible.

If you’re using tirzepatide (Mounjaro®) and taking the contraceptive pill, you should use an additional method of contraception, such as a condom. This is because your body may not absorb the contraceptive pill while using tirzepatide (Mounjaro®). More information about these medicines and contraception is available in this patient leaflet.

You may be aware that over the next 3 years the NHS is starting to roll out the provision of Mounjaro (Tirzepatide) injections for weight loss. The first part of this 3-stage roll-out will begin in July 2025.

The year one roll-out of this programme is strictly limited to those with a BMI of Over 40* and 4 out of 5 of the following weight related conditions:
• Hypertension (High Blood Pressure)
• Dyslipidaemia (High Lipids(fats)/Cholesterol)
• Obstructive Sleep Apnoea
• Cardiovascular Disease
• Type II Diabetes Mellitus

(*37.5 for people from South Asian, Chinese, other Asian, Middle Eastern, Black African or African-Caribbean ethnic backgrounds)

The injections will be prescribed along side a programme of Behavioural Support for Obesity services, including a reduced calorie diet and increased exercise regime. Patients must engage in this service in order for a prescription to be issued.

As a surgery we are not yet ready to start prescribing this medication, as we are waiting on full training for our clinical staff. Please be assured that, once we are in a position to do so, we will be in contact with those patients who are eligible to discuss their treatment options.
