You may be aware that over the next 3 years the NHS is starting to roll out the provision of Mounjaro (Tirzepatide) injections for weight loss. The first part of this 3-stage roll-out will begin in July 2025.

The year one roll-out of this programme is strictly limited to those with a BMI of Over 40* and 4 out of 5 of the following weight related conditions:
• Hypertension (High Blood Pressure)
• Dyslipidaemia (High Lipids(fats)/Cholesterol)
• Obstructive Sleep Apnoea
• Cardiovascular Disease

The injections will be prescribed along side a programme of Behavioural Support for Obesity services, including a reduced calorie diet and increased exercise regime. Patients must engage in this service in order for a prescription to be issued.

As a surgery we are not yet ready to start prescribing this medication, as we are waiting on full training for our clinical staff. Please be assured that, once we are in a position to do so, we will be in contact with those patients who are eligible to discuss their treatment options.

ADVANCE NOTICE:
The Surgery will be closed from 1pm on 17th June for our next training afternoon.
This closure has been agreed by the local commissioning board (BOB ICB) to allow GP practices across Oxfordshire facilitate training for their practice team.
If you require medical attention, please do not ring the surgery but contact NHS 111. If you require urgent or immediate treatment, please attend Urgent Care or if life threatening consider attendance at A & E.
For any non-urgent queries or bookings, we would ask that you call the surgery on an alternative day.
Many thanks in advance for your co-operation and support in this matter.
We will be open again on Wednesday as usual from 08:00.

24/7 Text Message service for Mental Health Support

Urgent mental health support is now available by text message to people of all ages across Oxfordshire and Buckinghamshire.
The service offers free, confidential, 24/7 support via text message for anyone struggling to cope.

Anyone experiencing anxiety, stress, loneliness, depression, self-harm, suicidal thoughts, or other mental health challenges can use the service by texting the word ‘SUNRISE’ to 85258 at any time of day or night.

It is a simple, straightforward way to get mental health support from a mental health professional when people need it most.
The text service is in addition to a range of in-person and telephone-based urgent mental health services locally offering another, alternative way for people to access immediate, anonymous support. It can be used at any time, day or night.

You can read more about this on the Oxford Health NHS Foundation Trust website.

Dear All,

Sarah

Update: Thank you all very much for your kindness and support! We have now raised an amazing £2531 for the Silver Star Maternity Fund in memory of Dr Albert.

Sarah

I am running my first London Marathon in 2025 in memory of Dr Simon Albert, a dear friend and colleague who died suddenly in 2023. He was my inspiration, a hugely dedicated and exceptional GP, and a very kind man. Simon supported Silver Star with his wife Beth over the years and Beth believes that Silver Star is the charity that Simon would have wished for me to support in his memory.

The Silver Star Maternity Fund’s Aim is:

“To make things better for Oxfordshire mothers and their families, to raise money to keep the Silver Star Unit well equipped, and to improve the comfort and amenities for ALL women during their stay at the Women’s Centre, and to support research into important problems of pregnancy”.

Any support would be very gratefully received - please see my Just Giving page - https://www.justgiving.com/page/sarah-purvis-1723039549863 or there will be a donation box at Buford Surgery in the New Year.

Thank you

Sarah Purvis
