Procrastination is the thief of time.
Look, we will all do it but itâs about recognising itâs happening and refocusing cause once weâve âeaten the frogâ đ¸ the day can only improve right?!
Let me use exercise as an example⌠for me, if I donât set my alarm to go for a run or to go to my fitness class in the am, then the chances of me fitting it in later in the day are much lower.
I donât always feel like getting out of bed, I donât always sleep well but I donât give myself an inner conversation of should, I remind myself itâs a choice and I eat the frog!
Getting stuff done and ticked off is a great feeling.
Yesterday, I wanted to clear out a cupboard.
It was full of books from when the kids were at school, full of old games we never played, blankets I donât need, you get the picture.
So I got the job done!
I did lose a bit of time reminiscing with the kids over old pictures I found from as far back as 30 years ago but that was nice too.
When we complete a task, even a small one, the brain releases dopamine, a neurotransmitter associated with pleasure, motivation, and reward.
This isnât just about feeling good, it reinforces the behaviour, making us more likely to do it again.
Itâs part of the mesolimbic dopamine system, particularly the prefrontal cortex, thatâs active during goal directed behaviour.
Finishing a task gives a dopamine boost, which improves mood and motivation for future tasks.
Allowing me to enjoy my Saturday night!
What will you do today no matter how small to increase your dopamine?! đđ
Let me know, Iâm off to do that morning runâŚâşď¸
