Does anyone else find it's their own hobbies that get sacrificed during the school holidays?

Usually, my exercise time goes out the window when the children are off.

This summer, I have decided to embrace change and make sure I find a little window to maintain what makes me feel good.

I'm always awake early, so I have decided to get up, get out, and get it done. I was home by 7.30 am, ready to be mum.

Can you find a window to fill your tank?

Who knew Net-walking was a thing? That's my something new learnt today.

It was lovely to walk and talk with Louisa Vaughan today, chatting about life as a self-employed mum. When you don't have any colleagues, it's really invaluable. Thanks Lou.

It was lovely to see the children exploring the science museum today, and I always love a learning opportunity. It was fascinating (and slightly horific at times) learning how procedures were done back in the 1800s

Let's talk about our Lymphatic System!

If, like me, (before I started learning about it), you know very little about this incredible system, then let me introduce you. It does way more than I ever thought!

To begin, let's look at the system itself.

Our Lymphatic system is a series of vessels (tubes) and nodes (cells) that run throughout our entire body. It is connected to our circulatory (blood) system and has the very important job of cleaning our fluid.

Blood is pumped out by the heart and travels through a series of vessels delivering life sustaining nutrients to the cells of our body. All of the remaining fluid (previously called blood but now known as interstitial fluid) is collected up by the Lymphatic system. This fluid (which is now called lymph) is transported by our lymphatic vessels and is filtered through our lymph nodes. Our lymph nodes check for anything that shouldn't be there and deal with it, releasing only the safe stuff before making its way back to the heart (where it is called blood again 😉)

I'm a bit belated in posting, but I'm very pleased to say that I have passed my level one in the Dr Vodders Manual Lymphatic Draining technique.

The more I learn about it, the more I love it. It's such a gentle technique yet does sooooo much. I can't wait to tell you more.

Sometimes, I wonder why I put myself through all the extra stress of learning a new skill. But then I always come back to the answer that I love it, it fills my bucket, and I genuinely believe it's a skill worth mastering. And why do the most demanding course out there? Because if you're going to do something, you may as well do it properly.

A fab brain busting weekend refining my skills and revising the 9 different routines for 9 areas of the body that you can administer Manual Lymphatic Drainage (which is pretty much anywhere).

Manual Lymphatic Drainage aids the movement of Lymphatic Fluid in the body. It can help remove fluid, calm the sympathetic nervous system (reducing stress), reduce pain, reduce fibrosis, and support the immune system.

If you are serious about learning MLD, then I can thoroughly recommend the Vodder course.

This was me on Monday!

I often get asked if I ever go for a massage. The answer is absolutely yes!

Here's why. Firstly, if I didn't believe in the amazing benefits of massage, then I'm in the wrong job. Secondly, I believe it's important for me to be reminded how it feels to be the one on the couch. How nice the nice bits feel and how ouchy those tender bits feel.

When did you last get that post massage feeling?

It really is never too late when it comes to scars.

A wound takes around 2 years to fully complete its healing cycle, so within this time, you can make the most impact. However, improvements can still be made even decades down the line.

Sciatica! Ouch! Quite literally a pain in the bum.....and perhaps down the back of the leg.

After using soft tissue release techniques and stretching, I used myofascial taping to support the treatment. I have used the tape to encourage length through the hamstrings (backs of the thighs) and to create space in the lumbar spine (lower back).

This will give the area where the sciatic nerve is irritated/pinched more space, thus reducing the pain and allowing it to heal.
