When a loved one passes away abroad, families are often left asking one urgent question: how long will it take to bring them home?

International repatriation is a carefully regulated process involving multiple authorities, airlines, and legal requirements across different countries. While every case is unique, most repatriations worldwide take around 7–10 days, though this can vary depending on local bureaucracy, investigations, and flight availability.

In our latest blog, we explain:

• What happens in the first few days after a death abroad

• Why some countries are able to move faster than others

• What families can do to help avoid unnecessary delays

Understanding the timeline can make an incredibly difficult situation feel a little more manageable.

What is the best way to spend a Friday afternoon? For us... it's great conversations with likeminded repatriation professionals! ✈️

This afternoon, we had the pleasure of hosting our Japanese provider, Funeral Support Services to our Clapham office in London.

We spoke at length about numerous things, collaboration is everything when it comes to global repatriation and truly understanding how things work in different countries and cultures is essential in supporting every family in the best possible way.

A valuable afternoon spent with great company, wishing you a safe journey home, Rob!
