We are a day opportunity service for adults with learning disabilities. Our service is based in Burgess Hill.

In DCG, teamwork has been at the heart of an exciting new project! We’ve been working together to begin creating an accessible calendar highlighting key dates and events throughout the year, to display in our service!🗓️

This calendar will support us to holistically plan sessions across the service, ensuring activities are meaningful, inclusive, and linked to important moments in the year. It will also give us the opportunity to celebrate achievements, recognise participation, and reflect on the positive outcomes from these events.💙

A fantastic example of co-production in action, listening, sharing ideas, and building something that truly works for everyone 💙👏

This week within the Communication Through Art session we took inspiration from the recent weather and created snowy winter paintings!❄️🖌️ 🎨

We wanted to create these pieces using different varieties of media building up layers to add dimension. We started with a watercolour base, blending colours together to get a perfect night sky. We then added our tree silhouettes, followed by textured snow. Finishing our pictures off with rhinestone snowfall and a large moon!🌌🌨️🌕

Everyone really enjoyed carefully working through each step, ensuring we were pleased with our work before we moved on to the next stage. There was a huge sense of pride in the room when we had finished our pictures, and we can’t wait to put them up on display around the centre!🥰 🖼️

On Tuesday we had a visit from Worthing Mencap & Buddys, to give a talk to our Self-Advocacy group about how to save energy & keep warm throughout winter!❄️

It was a very informative, engaging and accessible session, and the members of the group enjoyed chatting about different ways we can reduce energy costs and what we can do to make a difference in our own homes! 🏠🪟🚿

We then all enjoyed a fun game of “energy saving” bingo, where we won some brilliant hats & scarfs as prizes, something we were very grateful for considering the weather outside!🧣🧤

Thank you so much Mencap for coming to spend some time with us, we really enjoyed having you here and can’t wait to come and visit you at Buddy’s Café soon! 🤩🩵

As we step into a brand-new year, we’re taking a moment to look back and celebrate everything that made the past year at Burnside so special. 🌟

Over the last year we’ve shared so many amazing achievements, from creative arts, music and dance sessions, cooking together, gardening and community projects, to memorable trips, performances and celebrations. We’ve seen confidence grow, new skills learned, friendships strengthen and independence flourish every single day. 💛

None of this would be possible without the incredible people we support, our dedicated staff team, and the wonderful families, volunteers and community partners who continue to support us. Together, we’ve created a year full of laughter, learning, teamwork and unforgettable moments.💙

Here’s to building on those achievements, creating even more opportunities and making 2026 another year to remember at Burnside. 🥂✨

Today we headed out to East Beach, Littlehampton to stretch our legs, get some fresh sea air, and blow away those Christmas cobwebs! It was the perfect way to get moving, enjoy some gentle exercise, and soak up the calming sights and sounds of the coast.☺️

Along the way we made some brilliant beach finds too 🐚✨
🔍 A collection of beautiful shells
🔮 2 hag stones
💎 Half of a geode
⭐ A fossil of a starfish
🦀 And even a crabs outer shell, sparking lots of curiosity and conversation!

A refreshing, feel-good day full of movement, discovery, and smiles. Just what we all needed! 💙

Yesterday we were delighted to be joined by the amazing Miss Kate, who treated us to a fantastic performance filled with Christmas classics and well-loved songs. The room was full of smiles, singing along, and festive cheer from start to finish 🎄🎤

Kate is not only a talented singer but such a genuinely lovely person and it is always an absolute joy to welcome her into our service. Thank you, Miss Kate, for bringing so much warmth, music, and happiness to our afternoon. We can’t wait to see you again soon! 💖🎶

Last week our Thursday Cook My Lunch session was full of festive cheer as we got busy creating a delicious Christmas lunch together! 🎅✨

On the menu was baked salmon with veggies, classic pigs in blankets, and a show-stopping Merry Berry pavlova to finish 🍽️😋

Everyone worked brilliantly as a team, having lots of fun while learning new kitchen skills, following recipes, and helping each other along the way. There was plenty of laughter, festive vibes, and a real sense of achievement when we all sat down to enjoy the food we’d made together ❤️

A wonderful way to celebrate the season, great food, great teamwork, and lots of smiles! 🎄✨

We’re incredibly proud to share some wonderful news from just outside Ditchling that our Nature and Conservation group have been part of🌳

A total of 450 trees, including Hawthorn, Hazel, Field Maple, Crab Apple, Dogwood and Elder, have been planted to create a brand-new hedgerow linking two woodland areas. This green corridor will give wildlife a safe, natural route to move between the woodlands, helping birds, small mammals and insects to thrive 🐦🦔🐝

This hedgerow isn’t just beautiful, it’s a powerful step towards supporting biodiversity, protecting habitats and caring for our local environment. Watching nature grow and knowing we’ve helped create a safer journey for wildlife is something truly special 💚

A huge well done to everyone involved in making this happen - Lost Woods of the Low Weald and Downs! Your hard work is already making a difference! 🌱👏

We would like to say a massive thank you to Haywards Heath Waitrose & Partners for their very kind donation of a beautiful 7ft Christmas tree to our service.🎄

It’s taken pride of place at the front entrance of our building, and our Tidy Town group had great fun decorating it this morning, with lots of smiles, teamwork, and festive cheer all round! ✨

We’re so grateful for the support and generosity from our local community. Thank you for helping us spread some Christmas magic! 🎄💙
