🍼 BABY UPDATE 👶🏻
Just two days after treatment, little Annie arrived 8 days early 🐣!
Having been told "I've never been early" when treating and explaining the benefits of Chiropractic throughout pregnancy - this is just one example of how the body really does know when it's functioning at its optimum, allowing the nervous system to do its thing and undergo the miracle of child birth 🤱🏼
Congratulations to Jenny and her family in welcoming their little girl into the world ❤️

🤙🏻 Chiropractic and Pregnancy 🤰🏼

Becky has had the privilege of looking after Jenny throughout her pregnancy. This is her third child and when she saw her on Thursday, her due date was a mere 10 days time! During this Pregnancy, Jenny has reported no sciatic pain, which she has experienced in both her other pregnancies 👌🏻

As you can see, we use a combination of Chiropractic, soft tissue work and McTimoney gentle toggles for Jenny's treatment. Pillows are also used to support bump and ensure pregnant patients are comfortable throughout treatment.

Chiropractic is great for both before, during and after pregnancy for pelvic alignment, joint mobility and neurological function to ensure your body is working at its best whilst undertaking the important job of growing a human 👶🏻🌿

Here at Burgess Hill Chiropractic we have treated humans for over 22 years but did you know we now also treat dogs?
Dogs can benefit from Chiropractic the same way we do as humans; post-trauma, rehabilitative, post-operative and even prehab to keep them fit and well to perform and feel better 🐾

Let's talk DIZZINESS 🥴 (more specifically The Epley Manoeuvre and BPPV!)

Here at Burgess Hill Chiropractic Clinic we are fully trained and practiced in The Epley Manoeuvre, meaning we can treat patients who are suffering with specific vertigo-type dizziness and diagnosed Benign Paroxysmal Positional Vertigo (BPPV).

BPPV is a specific type of vertigo that causes sudden spells of vertigo - a feeling of intense loss of balance for seconds to minutes and may occur alongside nausea.
Often this can be brought on by a particular position, looking up, laying down in bed or bending over and reaching into cupboards.

In BPPV this severe intense dizziness can be caused by crystals in the ears that normally help with our balance becoming displaced from their normal place.

The Epley Manoeuvre is a series of specific head and body movements undertaken by a skilled professional to help treat this specific debilitating vertigo.

📱🎮 Tech Neck 💻👩‍💻

As the use of mobile technology has grown exponentially in the last decade, so has the increase in conditions associated with it's use.

Tech Neck, also dubbed "text neck" is one of these conditions whereby the prolonged forward flexion of the neck over time creates pain, reduced range of movement and long term degenerative effects.

When your neck is in a forward position, this puts added stresses on the:
⭐ Vertebrae
⭐ Facet joints
⭐ Discs
⭐ Surrounding soft tissue structures such as the muscles and ligaments

Texting is not the only way we create this neck posture; video gaming, prolonged use of laptops and work equipment and video calls also add to this pattern of forward flexed posture, as we increasingly rely on technology in our day to day lives.

Our heads are around 15lb of weight sitting on our shoulders. When we flex our neck forwards, such as when using a device, this relatively increases the weight of our head to 50lb if pressure on our neck. That is 5x the amount of weight our neck muscles have to hold, which causes shortening and added strain and pressure.

In addition to pain, you may also notice symptoms such as:
👎🏻 Headaches
👎🏻 Numbness and tingling into the arms and hands
👎🏻Neck spasm
👎🏻 Reduced range of movement
👎🏻 Referred pain into the shoulder blades and upper back

Post treatment kisses from gorgeous Mollie, the 8 month old Leonberger 🐾🐶
As a large breed who likes to spend a lot of time playing with her older sibling Millie, her owners were keen to get her checked over.
Mollie has a slightly turned out right hind leg which twists as she walks and causes intermittent lameness. Today she received her first treatment and we will be working closely with her owner to help rehabilitate her whilst she is still growing.

Dan has been receiving care for headaches and I just couldn't miss the opportunity to meet Zeus as well 💞

Anterior (aka forward) Head Carriage, as seen here in this picture, is where the head is improperly aligned with the neck and shoulders. It is caused by poor posture and repetitively leaning forward for prolonged periods.

In society today we are all subject to this a lot as a result of:
💻 Working from home
📱 Use of mobile phones
📚 Work and studying

🌟 This patient came to see me with, amongst other pain, a concern visually about how far his head sits forward.
🌟 Within just a few treatments you can already see the difference; by utilising gentle Chiropractic and soft tissue techniques we can already see a decrease in his forward head carriage.
🌟 Whilst this patient did not elicit pain in his neck, it's important to address postural misalignments, as long term create symptoms including pain and referral throughout the body and the spine
