Pure inspiration

When Allyson Felix became pregnant, Nike was prepared to cut the terms of Felix's endorsement by as much as 70% due to the pregnancy, and told her to “know your place and just run.” 🤯

Amid all of this, she was forced to have an emergency c-section seven months into her pregnancy because of a potentially life-threatening condition and her baby had to live for more than a month in the NICU. But two years later she’s qualified for her fifth Olympics with her daughter watching.

Felix dropped Nike and created her own brand of running shoes, the Saysh One. She is currently running in the Olympics in Japan wearing them under the banner “I Know My Place”. 😏

With 11 medals now, she passed Carl Lewis this summer for the most track and field medals by an American in history!

"I used my voice and built this company for you. So that you never have to train at 4:30am while you're 5 months pregnant to hide your pregnancy from your sponsor.”

It’s ok to be tired, we’ve all experienced “mum tired” sometimes it feels like a constant state of mind. But you’re not alone, there will be days where you have the energy. Just remember we’re all in it together, to pick one another up when you are down. It takes a village

There’s no tired quite like mom tired.

It’s being tired of being the responsible one who never gets a mental break because if she does, nothing will get done.

It’s holding her phone in her hand and looking all over the house for it because she has so many things on her mind and is running on empty, so she doesn’t realize it’s been in her hand the entire time.

It’s throwing her hair up into a messy bun on top of her head because she has no energy or time to do anything else.

It’s looking in the mirror and feeling bad about her body because it’s not the “after picture” she always imagined it’d look like at this point postpartum.

It’s being tired of EVERYONE’s opinions about how SHE should mother. Because she’s always doing it the “wrong way," and “the other mother” is so much better.

It’s being tired of mom-guilt shaming her and telling her she’s not good enough.

It’s spending “alone time” doing anything else but relaxing because HOW ELSE IS EVERYTHING GOING TO GET DONE?

It’s never finishing a conversation without someone jumping in, screaming "Mommy look!" or tugging on her shirt.

And It’s more complicated than a tired that can be fixed with a nap.

Because there’s no tired quite like mom tired.

Love, nurture and grow your baby 🤍

Love, nurture and grow your baby 🤍

These aren't modern crazes we've taken up.

They aren't terrible habits we've gotten ourselves into, that need to be stopped asap before they ruin our babies.

They are ancient parenting practices, and they are the blueprint on your newborn baby's brain and what they expect from you as soon as they are born.

This is why the work that I do with families antenatally, and with newborns up to 6 months is purely about setting expectations for normal newborn sleep, feeding and creating secure bonds, and looking after yourself as well.

Sometimes just knowing what's normal is enough and you can carry on following that ancient intuition that was always within you 🤍

Moms never stop needing support.

When she first has her baby, the support floods in from everywhere.

But then, after that first few weeks, everyone seems to disappear.

The texts checking in
stop.

The offers to babysit so she can take a nap
disappear.

But mommy never stops needing support.

She needs someone to call when she’s on the bathroom floor, face streaked with tears.

She needs someone she can vent to after she deals with an epic tantrum in the grocery store and someone criticizes her parenting.

Not just the beginning, but moms need someone to place them gently back on their feet through all phases of motherhood.
To calm their fears.
To tell them they’re doing a good job.

Because the reality is,
motherhood gets harder and harder.

And she can use someone to hold her hand and tell her they’ve been there and know how frustrating it is to fold laundry and cook dinner when she’s sick,
or to receive a hard diagnosis,
or how difficult the first-time separating is.

And she doesn’t need anyone to step in and do it for her,
she just needs the emotional support.

All moms do.

Because mothers who do that for everyone else deserve to be comforted, too.

So don’t forget to check on her,
Moms never stop needing support.

Here you are again. The most important post of the Summer Season for caretakers of little-ones. (up to the age of 100) 🥰
(FYI: Give small amounts of cool, not cold, water with a teaspoon of salt per quart. (Cold water and salt tablets can actually increase cramping symptoms.) Sports drinks are not for the little ones & especially not for babies, Give Pedialyte on recommendation of your doctor.)
(You need to clarify that these tips apply to babies over 6 months. Infants under 6 months should be rehydrated with breast milk or formula, not water.)
HEAT STROKE IN BABIES & TODDLERS
Heat exhaustion and heat stroke don’t just appear out of the blue. There are signs of heat stress, which, if left untreated, can lead to heat exhaustion and heat stroke.

The initial signs of heat stress include:
• Heat rash that doesn’t go away when the skin is cooled, called “prickly heat”. This rash looks like a red cluster of pimples or small blisters on or around the
NECK - UPPER CHEST – GROIN – ELBOW CREASES.
• Heat cramps happen as muscles and bodily systems deplete their supply of electrolytes, particularly salt and water, and as a reaction to lower blood volumes. These cramps usually occur in the ABDOMEN – LEGS – ARMS and are accompanied by MOODINESS and FUSSINESS. If a baby, toddler or young child starts showing signs of crankiness or fussiness this can be an early indication of heat stress.
• Watch for unusual erratic and repetitive behaviors, such as repeatedly standing and sitting.

If the above symptoms worsen and start to include:
• Intense thirst
• Dizziness or fainting
• Pale skin
• Rapid but weak heart rate
• Headache
• Nausea and vomiting
• Concentrated p*e & decreased output (yellow/orange)
Then your child is becoming dehydrated and likely has heat exhaustion.

TREATMENT:
• IMMEDIATELY STOP ALL ACTIVITY !!!
• Remove clothing
• Move to a cool place
• Give cool water with a teaspoon of salt per quart, or sports drink. (Cold water and salt tablets can actually increase cramping symptoms.) (not for babies - give Pedialyte on recommendation of doctor)
• Gently massage child’s muscles
• Elevate feet on a pillow if they will lie down

Rest and rehydration is usually enough, though some children may need more time to recover than others. Hospitalization is rarely needed.
DO call your family doctor.

Great way to read little tell tale signs from your little ones

The most awaited anticipation among first-time moms is the urge to get the hang of their baby’s hunger cues. They may also be whispering to themselves, “how much to feed or how to know when they’re full” At first, things might be a tad dodgy, but you will sync in eventually. It might be a li...

Breast or bottle feeding, your baby is getting enough. Your milk supply and your baby stomach grow together

"See that tiny pink bead on my lanyard? That is the size of a newborn's tiny tummy. When baby is born, the birthing parent produces colostrum for baby, which is the perfect for baby. Colostrum contains just the amount of food baby needs and passes antibodies. It's ! In this photo, I have a standard 2 ounce bottle of formula that is given to new babies. So, if baby's belly is only the size of a marble, what happens when baby is fed 2 ounces? Well, baby will usually spit up all the extra, which then can be spinned into baby having reflux. When really, baby is just being over fed. This leads to interventions like formula changes, antacid medications, etc. It's important that we give families all the available information so they can make the best decisions for their families.
