A Valentine to the Woman in the Mirror
February wraps the world in red,
In roses, ribbons, words unsaid,
In heart-shaped boxes tied with lace,
And love that seems for every face.
But I stand here in softer light,
Button straining just a little tight,
Tracing lines I’ve tried to hide,
Carrying battles deep inside.
I’ve known the dance of start again,
Of Monday vows and “this time then,”
Of scales that judge, of jeans that blame,
Of hope that flickers like a flame.
I’ve called myself the harshest names,
Let shame referee my games,
Said “after this,” “when life feels right,”
“I’ll love me more when I’m more light.”
And Valentine’s Day whispers low,
Of candlelight and perfect glow,
Of slipping into something slim,
Of being chosen—cherished—him.
But love is not a smaller size,
Not shrinking hips or thinning thighs,
Not numbers flashing cold and blue,
That measure worth like they once knew.
Love is every choice I make
To rise again for my own sake,
To walk despite the ache and doubt,
To turn the inner critic out.
It’s choosing fruit when cake calls loud,
Standing tall though not yet proud,
Drinking water, lacing shoes,
Fighting urges I could use.
It’s saying, “Body, we’re a team.
You’ve held my stress, my silent scream.
You’ve carried kids, and grief, and years—
You’ve weathered storms and hidden tears.”
This Valentine’s, I light a flame
Not just for passion, not for name,
But for the woman still in fight,
Who shows up daily, despite.
For every pound that came from pain,
From long nights, loss, and heavy rain,
From putting others first in line—
This healing heart is still divine.
So here’s to roses yet to bloom,
To space reclaimed in every room,
To loving me as I begin—
Not “when,” not “then,” but in this skin.
And if love knocks upon my door,
I’ll greet it whole—not waiting more.
For the truest Valentine I’ll see
Is the one becoming free—
The one who stumbles, still stands tall,
Who dares to rise after each fall.
This year my heart is mine to mend—
And that is love that will not end 💕

Today I wanted to share a little bit about me… and how I got here ❤️
For years, I was the queen of yo-yo dieting. I’d lose weight, feel good for a while, and then something would happen — stress, illness, life — and it would all pile back on again. I never seemed able to stabilise my weight for more than a few months.
My biggest excuse?
“My life is too stressful.”
“I’m not in the right frame of mind.”
When the children were small — especially with our eldest being on the autistic spectrum — life really was full-on. But looking back, although those challenges were real, the excuses didn’t need to be.
When life felt manageable, I exercised. I ran, cycled, went to the gym, and kept my weight fairly stable. But then everything changed.
I slipped on wet tiles in a supermarket and suffered a spinal injury. Exercise became difficult, then almost impossible — and the weight crept back on. At the same time, my daughter was in and out of hospital, and my husband was struggling with Crohn’s. Life felt heavy in every sense of the word.
Then Covid hit. I caught it early on and was bedridden for weeks. Eventually, I was diagnosed with long Covid. I was exhausted beyond words, in constant pain — not just my back, but everywhere — and I couldn’t understand why my body felt like it was failing me.
In December 2021, I had emergency spinal surgery. Because my immune system was so low, I didn’t heal well and the operation wasn’t completely successful. The following December, I had a caudal epidural. It helped, but something still wasn’t right.
Eventually, I was diagnosed with fibromyalgia.
By this point, I had hit rock bottom. I was the heaviest I had ever been. I had taken early retirement due to ill health. Although I’d set up Ann-Marie’s Quirky Crafts, I didn’t have the physical or mental energy to fully make it work. Craft fairs felt overwhelming. Socialising felt exhausting.
I hated how I felt. I hated how I looked.
I avoided photos. I avoided friends.
And I truly believed this was just how my life was going to be.
But now?
I look back and barely recognise that woman — the one who hid from the camera, who felt “woe is me,” who believed she didn’t have the energy or motivation to change.
I am still on my journey. But I am happy. I’m proud of who I am and how far I’ve come. And more than anything, I get so much joy from showing other people that they can have this too.
My mission isn’t just to help you lose weight.
It’s to help you take back control.
To rebuild your confidence.
To become the best version of YOU.

Ways drinking tea and coffee can help you lose weight ☕️

Tea and coffee are the two most widely consumed beverages in the world (apart from water, of course)

They are also a very important part of my weight-loss plan. Obviously, like everything else in life, too much of a good thing can be bad. So don’t drink 10 cups of strong coffee a day because it’s ‘healthy’!

A reasonable number of cups of coffee is three to four per day. Research shows that 400mg of caffeine a day is safe for most healthy adults – this is around about the amount in four cups of brewed coffee.

Tea, on the other hand has far less caffeine in it. You can drink up to six cups of black tea per day and still remain within a healthy caffeine intake.

Remember that you should be drinking black coffee and tea without sugar for it to have health benefits, and for it not to add to your calorie intake for the day.

So how can drinking coffee and tea help you with your weight loss goals? Here are five ways:

1. A ‘cup of Joe’ makes the body ‘go’

Waking up in the morning is tough. Sometimes it’s really tough.

The one thing that makes it easier is that first cup of strong, black, unsweetened coffee. It wakes up your system, gets the digestive tract going, and provides the kick you need to get the day off to a positive start. Yay for caffeine!

If you’re not a coffee fan, you can get a good caffeine kick out of strong green tea, plus it has great antioxidant properties. Coffee is also very high in antioxidants.

2. You get more fat-burning benefits if you’re caffeinated

If you exercise first thing in the morning on an empty stomach, a cup or two of coffee will help you to burn more fat than you would otherwise. It will also help exercise not to feel so ‘painful’, as you’ll be training while actually awake.

✨Life is never perfect, nor is weight loss and maintenance

✨Keep working on getting your thought process away from I’ve been ‘good’ or ‘bad’, so you’re neither ‘in’ or ‘out’, just keep trying to do your very best.

✨If you have fallen down, brush yourself off, take a deep breath, and then try to get straight back up. Keep making sure that you get out of your own way. You are your biggest hurdle. Not other people. You.

✨If you have one flat tire, do you slash the other three?

✨Failing is part of the progress and there is only one way to improve, and thats trying again.

✨Just keep moving forward one day at a day, one meal at a time. One foot in front of the other.

✨Overall be kind to yourself, and never ever give up, or lose sight of your goal or what it represents, Improved health. Mentally and physically. Now that’s worth fighting for.

✨Nobody is perfect nor is this journey. It wasn’t supposed to be, or has to be to be successful

Remember these:

✨You are entirely up to you

✨The best project you will ever work on is you

✨Wake up with determination, go to bed with satisfaction

✨Prioritise you and your goals, you’re worth the effort

✨Choose your hard. Weight loss is hard. Weight maintenance is hard. However, being overweight, unhealthy and unhappy with yourself can be even harder

✨Healthy food,healthy body
