Summary of Client
38 year old female. Moderate activity level during working hours, teacher. Busy mum life with lots of family commitments. No structured exercise routine. Client presents with Psoriasis. None smoker.
Details of Presenting Condition
Psoriasis is a chronic, immune-mediated inflammatory skin disease that causes skin cells to multiply too quickly, leading to the buildup of scaly, flaky patches on the skin. These patches, often raised and red, can appear anywhere on the body but are commonly found on the elbows, knees, scalp, and lower back. It's not contagious and can vary greatly in severity from person to person.
Client presents with increasing psoriasis flare ups especially since the birth of her second son. She has been experiencing neck pain and swelling. She has been experiencing hip pain and stiffness, which is affecting her ability to move around as freely as she used to be able to.
Case Study write up
I completed 4 RLD treatments, one treatment every three weeks over 12 weeks.
Treatment 1 – as I worked the diaphragm and solar plexus area of client it put the client into a coughing fit, that she said has never experienced in that way before. As the treatment continued she relaxed into the treatment.
Treatment 2- client enjoyed and relaxed through treatment.
Treatment 3 & 4 – during the treatment client started to feel tingling and bubbling in the lower lymph area, which correlated to the reflexes that I was working on at the time.
Measurement
Will it help reduce the psoriasis flare ups.
Assessment & Evaluation of aims and outcomes
Client had no expectations of the treatment, they have not had Reflexology Lymph Drainage before, they have been managing their condition through advice and medication given by the doctors, although this gives some relief, they are still seeking other options to help manage their condition.
Client noticed no difference after receiving treatments 1 and 2, they enjoyed the experience of the treatment and were happy to continue, but did not report any changes.
Following treatment 3 (the first treatment where the client felt the lymph moving during treatment) stated that she had a big improvement in her hip pain and mobility.
Following treatment 4 client sent photo’s of an area of psoriasis that had cleared up well.
Overall the client enjoyed the 4 RLD treatments. I have never experienced someone having no reaction to treatment 1, but such a strong reaction to treatment 3 before, I feel that there would have been changes happening during treatment 1 and 2, that led to the big reaction at treatment 3. Improvements have been made at a slow and steady pace and continued treatments would be needed to see if treatment could have a long term impact on the psoriasis.
Client Feedback and Comments
After my third session, I began to notice an improvement in joint pain. This has become a significant change, as I no longer struggle to get out of bed in the morning. I have also seen an improvement in the appearance of my psoriasis patches, with reduced redness and scaling.
