MAGIC IN THE MESS: A PLAY THERAPIST'S DAY

In a room full of puzzles and games to explore
I sit on the carpet, cross-legged on the floor
I've got puppets that whisper and crayons that talk
And sometimes a train that's gone for a walk
With each tiny flower that teeters and falls
I'm mending small hearts behind plastic brick walls

From spilled Play-Doh pizza to glittery mess
I'm fluent in gibberish, in tears, and in stress
It's not just about all the giggles and fun
It's battles with dragons and fears that we shun
For every wild monster, a hug or high five
It's the art of just showing them they're brave and alive

We play through the worry, the anger, the glee
With paint on the fingers and minds running free
Though my office looks more like a circus gone wild
Every piece has a purpose, each scribble compiled
In castles of cardboard or a make-believe dance
I'm going to give them tools to take charge of their chance.

The end of the school year can bring many conflicting feelings of uncertainty, sadness and nostalgia along with excitement and hope for what lays ahead.
