This page is home to the work I do helping you to help your children and teens through writing workbooks with plenty of easy and practical exercises and activities to help those you love to understand and manage their emotions. I have worked with children and teens and their families for many years first as a Qualitative Market Research Consultant developing TV shows for children, advertising and developing new products then as a Therapist. I use a range of activities, techniques and practices including art and play, NLP, CBT, EFT and PTT - sorry about all the jargon. What it basically means is that I have masses of ways to help them and can always find something that appeals to them and helps them open up and share what's going on in their young life. I work on zoom, skype, any online platform and offline face to face as and when we can. Because you parents are a huge influence, I work with parents who want to learn how to help their children.

I get a lot of enquiries from parents who are concerned about their child's angry and sometimes explosive outbursts of shouting, hitting, kicking, throwing things and tears.

Anger doesn't just appear. It doesn't come from nowhere. We need to be curious about what happened just before. They are not doing it deliberately to wind you up. The anger is a last resort when they do not feel heard.

Here's a great worksheet that I'd love you to try with your child, not when they are 'in' the anger but a while after, when they have calmed down. Let me know how it goes.

I noticed this tree on my dog walk today and particularly the different roots from the one tree. It made me think of the Matrix Reimprinting work I do with teens where each memory takes us back to a younger version of themselves as we try to find the core limiting belief from their 0-6yrs that had been triggering them.

Once we find each one and heal it, they are free to grow without being held back by beliefs that don’t serve them like “I’m not good enough”, “It’s all my fault “.

As we navigate these anxious times with our kids and teens, parents are asking me what they can do to help them. So I thought I'd share these suggestions. Let me know how they work for you.

1. When they seem anxious, nervous or worried. Instead of asking them 'why?' questions, instead ask them "what do you need right now?" By doing this, you send the responsibility for fixing straight back to them. This shows them that you have faith in them to know the answer to what they need. This makes them feel more in control of their feelings which helps move them out of anxiety state.
2. Another good question is "is there anything I can I do to help you?" here again you're giving them the autonomy. They tell you if they need something rather than you either trying to guess or trying to fix.
3. Anxiety focuses on what they don't want to happen. It is what we call in NLP 'away from' thinking and the brain struggles with this. For example, if I say to you "Don't think about pink elephants" what do you immediately think of? Yes, pink elephants because you had to imagine them in order to decide not to think about them. Well anxiety is just like that. If your child is conjuring up all the things they don't want to have happen, they are already focusing on them. So instead of saying "don't worry' say "I hear that you are worried about these things that you don't want to have happen, but what would you really like to have happen instead. If you ask them as they think about that, to look up to their right this connects their brain to a future picture and works like a mental rehearsal. You're moving them from 'away from' thinking to 'towards' thinking and a positive focus.
4. Anxiety is about what might happen in the future, possibly based on what has happened in the past. Bring them back to the present by asking them for 5 things they can see, 5 things they can hear, 5 things they can touch.
5. Mindful breathing is where you breathe in as you take your index finger up the side of your thumb then out as you do the downward motion.
