This page is for you if you are a parent, teacher, coach, practitioner, social worker or work with children in any way at all. I have worked with children and teens and their families for many years first as a Qualitative Market Research Consultant developing TV shows for children, advertising and developing new products then as a Therapist. I now train others in working with children and teens and write books about it. I use a range of activities, techniques and practices including art and play, NLP, CBT, EFT and PTT - sorry about all the jargon. What it basically means is that I have masses of ways to help them and can always find something that appeals to them and helps them open up and share what's going on in their young life. I work on zoom, skype, any online platform and offline face to face as and when we can. Because you parents are a huge influence, I work with parents who want to learn how to help their children.

Do you have a child in Year 6 or Year 7?

This book covers:

Moving from Child to Teen with Confidence and Resilience

The transition from childhood to the teenage years is a huge step. Between school pressures, changing friendships, and growing independence, many children feel anxious, lack confidence, or struggle to express themselves.

This practical workbook is written especially for children aged 10–14 years. It offers clear, engaging strategies that help them thrive during this exciting stage of life.

Inside, young readers will learn how to:

Understand how their mind works and how they learn best

Challenge limiting beliefs and build empowering ones

Grow confidence, focus and motivation

Develop resilience and bounce back from setbacks

Manage emotions with EFT (tapping) techniques

Improve communication skills and make stronger friendships

Written in a supportive, easy-to-read style, the book combines NLP (Neuro Linguistic Programming) and EFT (Emotional Freedom Techniques) with practical exercises that children can use right away. It empowers them to feel confident, resilient, and ready for life’s challenges.

If you know anyone with children worried about school this week, please share this little EFT tapping workshop with them.

This will be a session for any children or teens who are anxious about the start of the school term. No need for camera on. It will be a tapping session using chat for comments.

As we navigate these anxious times with our kids and teens, parents are asking me what they can do to help them. So I thought I'd share these suggestions. Let me know how they work for you.

1. When they seem anxious, nervous or worried. Instead of asking them 'why?' questions, instead ask them "what do you need right now?" By doing this, you send the responsibility for fixing straight back to them. This shows them that you have faith in them to know the answer to what they need. This makes them feel more in control of their feelings which helps move them out of anxiety state.
2. Another good question is "is there anything I can I do to help you?" here again you're giving them the autonomy. They tell you if they need something rather than you either trying to guess or trying to fix.
3. Anxiety focuses on what they don't want to happen. It is what we call in NLP 'away from' thinking and the brain struggles with this. For example, if I say to you "Don't think about pink elephants" what do you immediately think of? Yes, pink elephants because you had to imagine them in order to decide not to think about them. Well anxiety is just like that. If your child is conjuring up all the things they don't want to have happen, they are already focusing on them. So instead of saying "don't worry' say "I hear that you are worried about these things that you don't want to have happen, but what would you really like to have happen instead. If you ask them as they think about that, to look up to their right this connects their brain to a future picture and works like a mental rehearsal. You're moving them from 'away from' thinking to 'towards' thinking and a positive focus.
4. Anxiety is about what might happen in the future, possibly based on what has happened in the past. Bring them back to the present by asking them for 5 things they can see, 5 things they can hear, 5 things they can touch.
5. Mindful breathing is where you breathe in as you take your index finger up the side of your thumb then out as you do the downward motion.

One of the things I find when working with boys in particular, boys who say they struggle with friendships; making friends in particular, is that they have no problems communication with team members in their games of football.

Think about it. In order to pass the ball they have to communicate. They have to alert their team member that they want to pass to them so they get free. Then having passed, they run up the pitch and indicate that they're free and ready for a pass. When they they try and score a goal, they are watching the goalie and trying to anticipate where it's best to aim for.

If you have an anxious child, a child who has low self-esteem, poos concentration or struggles with friendship, chat with them about where they have those skills in their sport.

One of the NLP beliefs of excellence is that we already have all the resources we need. Be curious.

You'll find my new book helpful - maybe your child or teen will actually read it because it will help them with whatever sport they do and help them realise what they can already do well.

If you buy it from my website I will send you either NLP for Tweens (10-13yrs) or NLP for Teens (14-18yrs) completely FREE

I trained in working with grief and loss with Janice Thompson whose youtube video I'm sharing here.

Grief and loss is regularly experienced by children as they move from year 6 to secondary school year 7. I find a combination of play and art therapy (which works with the right brain) on their imagination - "what if I don't make friends?" , "I won't see my old friends again", "It's so big, I might get lost" together with EFT Tapping helps to clear these anxieties and replace them with a calm confidence about the next step in their school journey.

Children and teens also experience grief and loss when parents split up. However, upsetting their home situation may have been, they still miss their absent parent. By EFT tapping and through play and art, crystal healing and NLP belief change techniques, they can begin to have clarity and feel more optimistic about the future.
