I’m very proud to say that I’ve had my first article published!

Rainbow after a storm: Baby Loss

As I approach almost 3 years of my sons birth, I also approach almost 3 years of my son’s death. Writing this article was empowering and emotional, but I hope it also gives an insight into how Bereavement Counselling can support those who have suffered a loss, but especially those who have lost a child.

When you lose a parent, you’re an orphan; when you lose a spouse, you’re a widow, but what are you when you lose a child? This really hit home. It amplifies the fact that child loss isn’t something we talk about enough. Of course nobody wants to think about the fact that children die, but in reality, they do.

My daughter is truly my rainbow. She lights up each room she enters, her smile is infectious, and I can’t wait to see how far she will shine. I have my rainbow, but I will always have the grey clouds above me after the almighty storm.

A therapist shares her journey through child loss and how grief counselling supported her healing.

Endings ✨ Finishing with a client can be an amazing feeling, to know that they feel ready to face the world with their coping mechanisms, feeling stronger and feeling ready to face their emotions. It can be bitter sweet ending with a client who I have spent a lot of time with, I will always wonder how they get on and how they’re doing, being a small part of their journey is the most rewarding feeling for me, but ultimately they have put the hard work in. I feel so proud of all of my past clients for taking the steps to counselling, those who I am working with to find themselves and those who will ask for help to love themselves ✨✨✨✨

Being a person centred Psychotherapist as a base allows me expand my knowledge and research on many presenting issues a client may face. Over the past year I have worked alongside many veterans who have faced addiction, due to many factors in their lives. As a counsellor, it isn’t my role to understand how the client feels, it’s to help the client to understand how they feel. My role is to always be in their frame of reference, meaning that my life experience shouldn’t interfere with what’s going on for the client as it’s about them, not me

This online Addiction Therapy Course introduced me to the subject by concentrating on the nature of addiction itself. It has helped me to understand basic human needs in relation to addiction and how therapists approach addiction, along with sharing scientific findings and psychological studies that explore how some people are affected, while others are not.
Recent findings in the area of alcohol addiction were introduced; increasing understanding with up-to-date knowledge, alongside general ideas of the hows and whys of alcoholism.

By being able to help my clients identify destructive patterns of any addiction, this will enable them to look at their underlying feelings.
The course explains the ‘six stages of counselling therapy’ and discussing the action area of therapy and how I can aid my client to make positive changes ✨✨✨✨

As a therapist, I sometimes forget that I’m also human. For me, therapy is my form of self care. It’s my space to be me with no judgement. My space to offload, vent, explore myself for my good, bad and in between. My own personal journey of attending therapy is why I became a therapist. My role may have changed as I sit in the therapist chair instead of the client, but my therapist still sees me for me, rather than the therapist I’m supposed to be. Therapy can be what you want it to be, there’s no right or wrong way, it’s about you and only you ✨✨✨✨
