Endings ✨ Finishing with a client can be an amazing feeling, to know that they feel ready to face the world with their coping mechanisms, feeling stronger and feeling ready to face their emotions. It can be bitter sweet ending with a client who I have spent a lot of time with, I will always wonder how they get on and how they’re doing, being a small part of their journey is the most rewarding feeling for me, but ultimately they have put the hard work in. I feel so proud of all of my past clients for taking the steps to counselling, those who I am working with to find themselves and those who will ask for help to love themselves ✨✨✨✨

Being a person centred Psychotherapist as a base allows me expand my knowledge and research on many presenting issues a client may face. Over the past year I have worked alongside many veterans who have faced addiction, due to many factors in their lives. As a counsellor, it isn’t my role to understand how the client feels, it’s to help the client to understand how they feel. My role is to always be in their frame of reference, meaning that my life experience shouldn’t interfere with what’s going on for the client as it’s about them, not me

This online Addiction Therapy Course introduced me to the subject by concentrating on the nature of addiction itself. It has helped me to understand basic human needs in relation to addiction and how therapists approach addiction, along with sharing scientific findings and psychological studies that explore how some people are affected, while others are not.
Recent findings in the area of alcohol addiction were introduced; increasing understanding with up-to-date knowledge, alongside general ideas of the hows and whys of alcoholism.

By being able to help my clients identify destructive patterns of any addiction, this will enable them to look at their underlying feelings.
The course explains the ‘six stages of counselling therapy’ and discussing the action area of therapy and how I can aid my client to make positive changes ✨✨✨✨

As a therapist, I sometimes forget that I’m also human. For me, therapy is my form of self care. It’s my space to be me with no judgement. My space to offload, vent, explore myself for my good, bad and in between. My own personal journey of attending therapy is why I became a therapist. My role may have changed as I sit in the therapist chair instead of the client, but my therapist still sees me for me, rather than the therapist I’m supposed to be. Therapy can be what you want it to be, there’s no right or wrong way, it’s about you and only you ✨✨✨✨

So today is the day that we were able to put the gravestone down for our little boy… Now this is a personal post, which is also a reminder that I’m human. I’m a mum, wife, friend, as well as being a counsellor. Before losing my baby, I had never experienced a bereavement. I had questions of whether I was “doing it right”. The truth is, there’s no right or wrong way of grieving. You can laugh, cry, scream, talk, stay silent, whatever you need to do then that’s okay. Please be kind to yourselves and let yourself grieve, however that may be… You’ve got this 🤍

A little bit of an introduction about me… So, my name’s Aisha and I run this page. I’m a person centred therapist but have worked with a variety of different people with a variety of different things they have wanted to work through. I myself have had counselling for many years and I will continue to do so. It’s important for me to be open and honest with my clients just as I hope for them to do the same with me. My role is to offer a safe space, empathy, no judgement, and a space for my clients to feel like they can be themselves and explore themselves. A colleague once said to me that the day they stopped learning would be a day they stopped practicing. I constantly learn from my clients, my surroundings and I am constantly learning about myself

You can have ten therapists in a row, all with the same qualifications, but they can all be completely different. We’re human, we have our own personalities and individualities. There would be a time that if a potential client chose another therapist, or if my client decided the therapy wasn’t for them, I’d be offended. But upon reflection, that isn’t about me, I just might not be the right therapist for them. It’s so easy to doubt or criticise yourself because we think we’ve done something “wrong”, but maybe it isn’t about us. Be kind to yourself, love yourself and embrace who you are ✨✨✨✨

Well this past year has been challenging to say the least, but it has added to the person I am. After 450 counselling hours, completing my degree and several CPD activities, I’m so proud to note that I am now an accredited member of the BACP. Writing my application brought up a lot of things, Yusuf has made me a mum, a better person and a better therapist as I am now a step further in figuring out who I am. He was a big part of my application, and will always be a big part of my life. Looking forward to the future ahead and what it may bring ✨✨✨✨

Took some time to reflect, away from the hustle and bustle of real life. I took the book “Good Vibe Good Life” by Vex King. This book was full of positive thoughts, vibes, but also a different perspective on how we can handle the bad, good, in between and everything life can throw our way. Self care is so important, it’s important to allow yourself a break when you can, to be able to breathe, to be able to stop and see where you are, but also where you want to be ✨✨✨✨
